FORMAT TEXT

Have you ever received a message with some words or phrases in bold, italics, etc. and wondered how it did it? One of the functions integrated into WhatsApp is the ability to format text and to do so you will have to insert special tags that I will now list for you:

  • we can write in italics by inserting an underscore on both sides of the text: _italics_
  • If we want to use bold instead, we need to insert an asterisk on both sides of the text: *bold text*
  • maybe you need to strikethrough the text, nothing simpler as you will have to insert the tilde symbol (~) on both sides of the text: ~text~
  • Do you want a more original look for your text, changing the format to monospace? In this case you need to insert three grave accents ( ` ) on both sides of the text: “`text“`
  • if you want to create a bulleted list, you have two options: insert the asterisk symbol and then a space at the beginning of the text, or the hyphen and space symbol: * text or - text
  • the list you want to insert should not be bulleted but numbered? Well the solution is simple, as you will have to insert the number, a period and a space before each element of the list: 1. Text
  • You may want to format the text with a sort of quote, so inserting the Pipe sign (a vertical slash |) and then how to do it? In this case, you just need to add the greater than symbol and a space before the text: > text
  • Want to make your code look like a programmer? To add inline code on WhatsApp, enclose the text between 2 grave accents: `text`

Adding all these extra symbols to your text can be tricky, there’s no denying it. But for simple edits, you can take advantage of WhatsApp’s built-in shortcuts that make writing with some formatting a lot easier. Simply type your message, select the part of the text you want to format, click on the three-dot icon, and some editing options will appear. This is the fastest way to bold or italicize on WhatsApp and use other formatting options like strikethrough or monospace.

The formatting theme for WhatsApp is really rich, in fact there are further text customizations for example by installing an Emoji keyboard that provides dozens of special characters suitable for the language you type. But you can also have access to ASCII characters, symbols and much more, such as using alternative fonts, going in fact beyond the styles offered by any standard keyboard.

I MADE A MISTAKE IN SENDING A MESSAGE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Of course, if the message was not intended for the person you sent the WhatsApp to, you can delete it or edit it. The most common situation is to send a message with a typing error, to which most users reply by writing the correct word in a separate message. Maybe you are not yet aware that WhatsApp allows you to edit messages even after sending them and to do this, just tap and hold the message in question to select it. At this point, click on the 3 dots at the top right and select Edit. Easy and professional but be careful, we have a limit, that is, only 15 minutes from sending to correct the message, otherwise you will no longer be able to edit it.

PROTECTION IS EVERYTHING

Lately, we have been hearing more and more about telephone and digital scams and these often also occur through WhatsApp channels and chats. Perhaps not everyone knows that during a call, our IP can be seen by the other user, as calls involve a direct connection. However, there is a way to protect yourself and increase the level of privacy, simply by accessing the application Settings and choosing the Privacy menu from which, in the next window, you will choose the Advanced item (you have to scroll down). Here you will find the option Protect the IP address during calls, so you will have to tap on it and activate the option.

SEND PHOTOS IN MAXIMUM QUALITY

Have you bought the smartphone with the best camera on the market and want to share a memory with friends and family with WhatsApp but when it is received they do not compliment you because the photo sent does not have a satisfactory or even poor quality? To remedy this and therefore also inflate your ego, but above all send images with the maximum quality at which they are taken, you must open the Settings of the app and choose the Data storage item and then Media file upload quality. Now you must select HD quality and save everything.

With this setting active, every time you send a photo it will be sent at maximum quality, but if instead you want maximum detail only for some photos, then what you have to do is click on the "paper clip" symbol, select Gallery and from the window that opens click on the HD symbol at the top right. Now you will send in high quality only the selected photos.
