The LAMTTO RC18 is a large 7-inch touchscreen monitor with a 1024 x 600 HD resolution. It can be easily installed using a suction cup or magnetic plate, but it's also easy to remove if necessary, for example to protect yourself from potential theft or to preserve its electrical components if you leave your car in the hot sun. I admit the materials used don't feel premium, but I didn't encounter any particular issues during my tests. The unique feature of this display is that it can switch between landscape and portrait modes based on personal preference. Landscape mode is ideal for watching movies and entertainment, while portrait mode is perfect for watching short videos and browsing websites.
On the top edge is the on/off button, while on the back is the 2W speaker, as this gadget can output audio independently. On the side, we find the AUX input for connecting audio sources, the micro SD slot with support for cards up to 256 GB, an AV input for connecting a rear camera, for example, to create a sort of dashcam, and finally the Type-C port for power. Finally, on the back is the magnetic or bracket attachment.
Among the main features of our magic monitor is the ability to connect an Android or iOS smartphone to wirelessly use both Android Auto and CarPlay. It works flawlessly, and the pairing process is the same as for both platforms. One thing that's truly rare on products of this kind is the mirroring function, meaning you can use any application installed on your phone without limitations. This means we can enjoy apps like SkyGo on this monitor, control home automation, and get full support for Telegram and WhatsApp, which are typically disabled on native Android Auto and CarPlay systems. We can even play games—in short, do just about anything—because essentially, we'll be replicating the smartphone interface on the display. Keep in mind, however, that in this mode, the touch screen won't be available. However, if we're playing multimedia content, like photos or videos, the software allows us to use the touch screen, which will remain inactive only for the actual mirroring.
From the system's home screen, we can also change the audio source, choosing FM, for example, which is ideal for older cars like mine. We can then use the integrated media player to play music and videos. The system language is Italian, and there's also a microphone for accessing Google Assistant or Siri and making hands-free calls. Two aspects immediately struck me: the connection speed and fluidity of the system, and also the audio coming out of the speakers, which isn't particularly loud but is quite clear. Another aspect is the ease of use, truly accessible to every user, even those with less tech experience.
