Similar to Snapdragon laptop chips, the 8 Elite features a Orion CPUs with a customized eight-core structure, consisting of 2 main cores clocked at 4,32GHz and 6 performance cores running up to 3,53GHz. This is paired with an industry-leading 2MB L24 cache and support for 5MHz LPDDR5300X RAM.
The new chip is manufactured with the TSMC's 3nm process and promises a 45% improvement in CPU performance and aEnergy efficiency improved by 44% compared to its predecessor. On the graphics side, Qualcomm is showcasing its revamped Adreno GPU, which offers a 40% increase in performance and power savings, as well as improved ray tracing performance.
Qualcomm's new chip is also the first mobile SoC to support Unreal Engine 5.3 and the Nanite virtualized geometry system, bringing mobile gaming to a new level of realism and detail.
On the AI side, the new unit of Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) ensures that AI tasks run 45% faster with improved performance per watt. Qualcomm introduces its AI Engine with Support for multi-modal Gen AI, capable of handling large and small multimodal models with the Ability to run up to 70 tokens on SLMs.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite features a improved image signal processing (ISP), more deeply integrated with the new Hexagon NPU. This ensures improved HDR, more natural skin tones, realistic sky colors and advanced autofocus performance. Qualcomm has also added chip-level semantic segmentation of photos and videos and a video object canceler.
In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features the Snapdragon X80 5G modem, the first 5G modem with 6x downlink carrier aggregation and AI-powered mmWave range extension. Qualcomm says peak download speeds reach 10Gbps and a theoretical maximum upload speed of 3,5Gbps. The new modem is paired with the FastConnect 7900 mobile connectivity system, the first to combine Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and Ultra Wideband connectivity in a single 6nm chip.
