Everything is returning to normal after the bad period experienced with the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic at the head and therefore it is also good to talk about the successes of companies such as those obtained by Xiaomi in the motherland. But this time we are not talking about smartphone sales but rather about a technology market we are talking about poco but which is constantly growing, namely that of smart speakers, a sector in which the trio of companies composed of Alibaba, Beidu and Xiaomi holds 96% of the sales share.
It is the market analysis company IDC, through a survey conducted in the first quarter of 2020, to show the marketing performance of the three companies mentioned above, which on balance hold the market in China.
Xiaomi, Alibaba and Baidu dominate 96% of the smart speaker market in China
The analysis was done from January to April of this year and showed that 10,56 million smart speakers were sold in China. Although the number seems high, it actually reveals a drop of 14,7% compared to the same period last year and, as mentioned at the beginning, this was generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Analyzing total sales, the Alibaba group dominates the market with 35,2% of total sales, with the Tmall Genie model being the company's most popular model with 3,71 million units sold. Last week the company announced a 10 billion yuan investment plan for the development of artificial intelligence to continue growth in this sector.
Baidu is in second place with 30,9% of total sales, with a large part attributed to speaker models equipped with screens while Xiaomi takes third place with a tiny difference: 30,4% of sales. We hope that the data will guide our beloved Xiaomi in the export of their smart speakers also for the European market, perhaps by integrating Alexa or Google Assistant, indeed the ideal would be for the Chinese OEM to develop its own assistant dedicated to our market. And what do you think?
Really good products, the only drawback is that you have to speak in Chinese
