Xiaomi concludes its first Hackathon: a resounding success!

Talking about Xiaomi we think first of all of the products. Yes, let's say that the Chinese company is famous for smartphones and everything related to technology. But that's not all. If we think of the huge YouPin crowdfunding platform where every day we find the most disparate products, even non-technological, we get an idea of what it can do. And where does it go without research and development? In short, many words to say that behind the company among the largest in the world there is research and behind the research there is developers. And the goal of Hackathon is precisely to find the best in the field.

A forge of brains: this is how we could define Hackathon, Xiaomi's first experiment to involve a large number of engineers and reward them for their projects

Today, for the first time, what is called "2020 Xiaomi Group's First Group Hackathon“, A very special event that involved not only the highest levels of the company but also the majority little Xiaomi engineers and developers. Yes, because all the engineers who already work for the brand participated in this event. These come from multiple departments like that of Beijing, Wuhan, Nanjing and so on. The objective of the event? Create a team and develop an idea in 48 hours. Which projects have been the most awarded?

Winning ideas and projects

In what can be called an innovation contest, 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes and 10 "consolation" prizes were awarded. It is worth noting that in 48 hours, the different teams produced 13 patents that the Chinese company could potentially use and develop in the future.

The engineering team that won the first prize (100.000 yuan, about € 13.000) created a  custom subtitle generator for people with language disabilities. Through the technology of vocal adaptation the group coming from a specific sector of Xiaomi, managed to solve the problem for which a user with a speaking disability cannot use voice commands. It is not the first time that we have seen the brand focus on the sector of disabled users… and this can only fill us with pride.

The team that instead won one of the second prizes created what was called a project "Jump if you're upset". In short, using your smartphone you can do sports and through a cross-screen sensory game engine it is possible to see progress in real time via an avatar on your TV. A sort of Nintendo Wii to understand.

The third prize went to the project "Shared Smart Balanced Scooters”Which allowed one scooter to move through remote controls. The user has never got on the scooter / scooter, which has moved exclusively via smartphone. According to the team that developed this project, the method they propose would allow solve driving problems when we are tired. Obviously in short journeys.

Xiaomi is very keen on this kind of initiatives. It is no coincidence that one of the three points of the global strategy is "make an interesting product ".
