Following the recent debut of the Pad 8 series in China, Xiaomi It already seems to be projected towards the future. According to what was reported by XiaomiTime, the company has started the development of the next generation of tablets, the Xiaomi Pad 9 series, which will include the Pad 9 and Pad 9 Pro models. The two devices were identified in a database with the code names “Erhu” and “Guitar,” thus continuing Xiaomi’s tradition of using musical instruments to internally identify its tablets.
Xiaomi Pad 9: First Leaks and Codenames for the New Series

Initial leaks suggest the Pad 9 series will be available in almost all global markets, except Japan. However, the Pad 9 Pro model may not be coming to India, a decision that could be due to positioning strategies or local demand considerations.
While it's still early to release official specifications, we can speculate on some features based on the current generation. The Xiaomi Pad 8 features an 11,2-inch LCD display with 3.2K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision support, and TÜV eye protection certification. It's all powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip and a 9.200mAh battery with 45W fast charging.
The Pad 8 Pro, meanwhile, raises the bar with a 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a 50MP main camera, 67W fast charging, support for 4K video recording, and a matte finish with an anti-reflective coating.
If Xiaomi follows the same evolutionary path, we can expect the Pad 9 series to introduce incremental improvements in performance, battery life, and display quality, as well as further integration with the HyperOS ecosystem.
The fact that work on the Pad 9 series is already underway, even though the Pad 8 hasn't yet arrived on international markets, demonstrates Xiaomi's desire to accelerate update cycles and maintain focus on the increasingly competitive tablet segment.
