Apple against Xiaomi, a hard blow for Lei Jun's company

Xiaomi has officially landed in Europe and the corridor voices insist more and more in the arrival of the Chinese company also in Italy, witnessed by the sale of some smartphones on the Amazon store but also at the GDO chains like Carrefour. Very interesting and positive news for western fans but to someone, perhaps the news has created trouble, and specifically to the American colossus Apple which, through the court of the European Court of Luxembourg, obtained and prevented Xiaomi from registering the "MI PAD" trademark, used for the east tablet, as legitimate, as considered too similar to Apple's iPad. Undoubtedly Xiaomi will appeal to such a decision, but this could mean that Lei Jun's company will not officially sell its tablet version in Europe.

The sentence arrived from the court, although recognizing that the iPad and Xiaomi Mi Pad are not equal products, in terms of hardware, software and design, establishes that the similarity between the names of the two tablets could create confusion for consumers. In particular, the presence of the additional letter M at the beginning of the name Mi Pad is not sufficient to compensate for the high degree of visual and phonetic resemblance between the two names. The decision was made in agreement with the EUIPO body, who adds that users with native English language could probably read the prefix MI as MY (mine) by pronouncing I of the term Mi Pad and iPad in the same way.

Personally I consider this sentence decidedly stupid, as without doubt a user looking for an iPad knows very well what product to expect and which retailers to contact, as well as those looking for the Xiaomi tablet will never come across the Apple tablet. Different operating systems, different functionalities, different hardware, different design, in short, they are two decidedly opposite products. How many times we found ourselves with clones of the Xiaomi Mi Mix that in their name made the word MIX appear, but also how many smartphones with the term S8 and similar, yet Samsung but the same Xiaomi have in no way raised a fuss.

As a well-known proverb would say: "The ox that says horned to the donkey", as a US judge has sentenced Apple to pay 506 million dollars to the Warf, the University of Wisconsin research institution, for the violation of a patent related to the processors on iPhone and iPad. I know maybe I'm biased because Xiaomi beats in my heart, who has the right to appeal to the court even though today's unfavorable sentence for Chinese society could be an indelible sign of future decisions.

Nerd, Geek, Netizen, terms that do not belong to me. Simply myself, technology lover and provocative as Xiaomi does with his products. High quality at fair prices, a real provocation for the other most famous brands.

Now a mispronouncement of English speakers becomes the fault of a company ... What then, in Europe ... How many English speakers are there? We're not talking about the United States ...
But we know that Apple likes to sue right and left only to show how powerful it is.
We are in the world of ridicule.

Well considering how much poco xiaomi ranks the mi pad compared to everything else what it does, "hard blow" seems excessive to me ... I would understand if they were forced to withdraw it from the market, but only for the name come on, it will still come out with its head held high 🙂

"Mi" is a trademark and cannot be touched. In Europe I would call it MiTab in the face of Apple who will sell its absurd products to its followers!

Crazy ... and to think that it would be enough to look on the box to understand that you are buying a Mi Pad and not an iPad, given the total absence of the Apple logo. But it is known that Apple robs to lose important market shares, especially when the risk is more than realistic given the qualities of the Xiaomi tablet and the price which, although raised compared to China, will certainly be lower than that of the US counterpart.
