Hard blow for Xiaomi: after 14 years HyperOS, and therefore MIUI, change forever

Il official launch of HyperOS it upset everyone a bit. New users were the least affected as they found themselves with a completely new Android interface; the old ones have undergone a radical change. In particular great changes they will come for those we call "geeks", that is, those who traffic with Betas. Here because.

From weekly to… what awaits us now with HyperOS Beta?

In recent years, Xiaomi has made notable changes in its approach to beta testing. Initially, the Chinese company offered almost daily updates through the MIUI Closed Beta, but in 2022 this policy has been revised. Since then, updates have only been made available once a week via the MIUI Open Beta. This decision marked the transition from MIUI to HyperOS, with the promise of greater stability and continuous improvement of functionality.

Today's official statement from Xiaomi explains that the model “Development Edition” will be replaced by the new “Beta Edition”. This is a strategic move that aligns with current trends in the technology industry, aiming to optimize user experience and operating system quality. The change is not limited to a simple rename; implies a review of beta release frequency.

changes on hyperos beta
If before there were 5 "steps", now there are only 2

Until August 2024, the release of Beta ROMs will follow the current schedule. However, after that, a reduction in release frequency is expected, although specific details have not been disclosed. It seems like the future of Xiaomi's beta testing will align with that of its global program, characterized by more sporadic but potentially more significant releases.

The first models that will experience this new policy include the latest one Xiaomi 14 e 14 Pro, as well as devices in the series Xiaomi 13 e 12, including the “Dimensity Edition” and “Ultra” specials. The models of the Redmi K60 and K50 line will also be involved, together with the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 and the larger Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4.

For Western users this change may seem irrelevant as it mainly affects the Chinese HyperOS Beta program. However, it is important to note that the changes to Chinese Beta ROMs usually affect Xiaomi.eu versions as well, which are popular among European users for their anticipation of features and improvements.

It's a real shame that REDMI NOTE 10 PRO has no longer had Security Updates since 18 December 2023... But shouldn't support have ended in March 2024? Mine remained stuck at the MIUI 14.0.9.0.TKFEUXM version including November 2023 Security Patch. (They could have sent some other MIUI 14 Updates)

I am very disappointed.
