The Claude app for Android is available for download on the Play Store

Anthropic has taken a significant step forward with the launch of its app Claude for Android. This development represents Anthropic's latest effort to convince users to abandon ChatGPT and embrace its proprietary language model chatbot, making it available on a wider spectrum of devices. All this, after being officially arrived in Italy recently.

Claude for Android available on the Play Store

The Claude app for Android aims to offer a similar experience to the iOS version released last May, with free access to Anthropic's most advanced AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, alongside enhanced subscription plans through Anthropic's Pro and Team options. It is worth mentioning that the company presented well three artificial intelligence models.

Users will have the option to synchronize their conversations with Claude on different devices and upload photos or files to the app for real-time image analysis. Additionally, the Claude app for Android includes the real-time language translation, a feature that Anthropic hopes will be a compelling reason to get people to open the app.

While Anthropic claims its AI models are technically on par with those offered by OpenAI and Google, the startup has struggled to gain traction among consumers. The launch of the Claude app for iOS two months ago received a lukewarm reception, with 157.000 total global downloads during its first week on the market, compared to 480.000 installs of the ChatGPT app for iOS in its first five days of availability.

This disparity in numbers brings to mind the concept of “diffusion of innovation” theorized by sociologist Everett Rogers. According to Rogers, the adoption of new technologies follows an S curve, with “innovators” and “early adopters” quickly embracing innovations, followed by the “early majority” and the “late majority”. In this context, Anthropic finds itself in the delicate transition phase between early adopters and the early majority.

Despite initial challenges, the launch of the Claude app for Android (available on the Play Store) represents a significant step for Anthropic on its path to broader consumer adoption. By offering a high-quality AI chatbot experience across multiple platforms and with advanced features like real-time language translation, Anthropic is positioning itself as a serious competitor in the artificial intelligence market conversational.
