Comparison Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, Mi 8, Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 SE and Mi 8 Explorer Edition

Not one, not two, not three, not four, but five versions of this device that is proving very successful: Lite, Pro, Standard, SE and Explorer. Each version differs from the other in several respects, but two versions in particular, which we have described to you here, they are quite similar to each other. In any case, here we will describe in detail the similarities and differences of each device in order to guide you to purchase the best one according to your needs.

Submission date

  • Mi 8 Lite: 19 September 2018
  • My 8: 31 May 2018
  • We 8 Pro: 19 September 2018
  • Mi 8 SE: 31 May 2018
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: 31 May 2018

Dimensions and weight

  • Mi 8 Lite: 156,4 x 75,8 x 7,5 mm for 169 gr
  • My 8: 154,9 x 74,8 x 7,6 mm for 175 gr
  • We 8 Pro: 154,9 x 74,8 x 7,6 mm for 177 gr
  • Mi 8 SE: 147,28 x 73,09 x 7,5 mm for 164 gr
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: 154,9 x 74,8 x 7,6 mm for 177 gr

There is very little to say: the Mi 8 SE it's the smallest and lightest and actually a usability level is slightly better compared to other brothers. THE Mi 8 Pro and Explorer Edition the brothers are instead greater in all, even in size, in fact they are larger than the Lite of about 10 mm. The weight is around for everyone 160 and 180 gr, so really nothing excessive.

Display

  • Mi 8 Lite: IPS LCD (1080 x 2280 pixels) from 6.26 '' with notch;
  • My 8: Super AMOLED (1080 x 2248 pixels) from 6.21 '' with notch;
  • We 8 Pro: Super AMOLED (1080 x 2248 pixels) from 6.21 '' with notch;
  • Mi 8 SE: AMOLED (1080 x 2244 pixels) from 5.88 '' with notch;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: Super Amoled (1080 x 2248 pixels) from 6.21 '' with notch.

Only the version Lite is provided with a screen with IPS technology (colors not excessively saturated, excellent viewing angles, but not excellent blacks reproduction) while all the others are equipped with AMOLED or Super AMOLED technology (reproduction of excellent blacks, beautiful and bright colors but quite high energy consumption). The Xiaomi SE has the smallest display and this could be a disadvantage for many users, since lately we are looking for a fairly high body screen ratio. Furthermore also all the devices, except the Lite, have mounted a glass of Gorilla Glass type and only the Pro version mounts the Gorilla Glass 5. There are those who have the biggest and the smallest: but we are talking about the notch, or the notch in the Lite seems to be less pronounced than the other versions. The display of Mi 8 Explorer Edition is then the first in the world to have the fingerprint unlock, precisely in the lower part of the display: with a minimum of pressure the phone unlocks instantly.

Processor

  • Mi 8 Lite: Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and GPU Adreno 512 with octa-core processor 4x 2.2 GHz Kryo 260 + 4x 1.8 GHz Kryo 260;
  • My 8: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and GPU Adreno 630 with octa-core processor 4x 2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold + 4x 1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver;
  • We 8 Pro: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and GPU Adreno 630 with octa-core processor 4x 2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold + 4x 1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver;
  • Mi 8 SE: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 and GPU Adreno 616 with octa-core processor 2x 2.2 GHz Kryo 360 + 6x 1.7 GHz Kryo 360;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and GPU Adreno 630 with octa-core processor 4x 2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold + 4x 1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver;

Also in this case the Lite appears to be the least performing device with the Snapdragon 660

. At the penultimate place we find the SE version that with his Snapdragon 710 performs well with single-core Geekbench scores of 1883 points and multi-core 5996 points. On the podium, the same merit, we have the remaining three devices that with the Snapdragon 845 dominate not only in this ranking but also in comparison with other devices of other brands. Now the845 is a guarantee.

Software

  • Mi 8 Lite: Android 8.1 Oreo but will receive Android 9.0 Pie;
  • My 8: Android 8.1 Oreo but will receive Android 9.0 Pie;
  • We 8 Pro: Android 8.1 Oreo but will receive Android 9.0 Pie;
  • Mi 8 SE: Android 8.1 Oreo but will receive Android 9.0 Pie;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: Android 8.1 Oreo but will receive Android 9.0 Pie.

We know for sure that now the bugs are really very few and with the arrival of Android 9.0 Pie it will be fully exploited AI technology already present on the devices: adaptive battery and brightness, gestures and more. All supported by the MIUI 10 which is now landing on all devices.

Camera

  • Mi 8 Lite: Dual 12 + 5 megapixel rear camera, 4032 x 3024 pixel resolution, digital stabilization and f / 1.9 + f / 2.o sensors opening. Single room front from 24 megapixel;
  • My 8: Dual 12 + 12 megapixel rear camera, 4032 x 3024 pixel resolution, optical stabilization and f / 1.8 + f / 2.4 sensor opening. Single 20 megapixel front camera with f / 2.0 sensor aperture;
  • We 8 Pro: Dual 12 + 12 megapixel rear camera, 4032 x 3024 pixel resolution, optical stabilization and f / 1.8 + f / 2.4 sensor opening. Single 20 megapixel front camera with f / 2.0 sensor aperture;
  • Mi 8 SE: Dual rear camera from 12 + 5 megapixels, resolution 4032 x 3024 pixels, digital stabilization and sensor aperture f / 1.9 + f / 2.0. Single front camera from 20 megapixel with sensor opening f / 2.0;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: Dual 12 + 12 megapixel rear camera, 4032 x 3024 pixel resolution, optical stabilization and f / 1.8 + f / 2.4 sensor opening. Single 20 megapixel front camera with f / 2.0 sensor opening.

All devices are equipped with HDR and the photographic sector is favored by the presence of AI, which allows the recognition of scenes and subjects for better photos. Nothing else to say, except that these cameras will be exploited to the best with subsequent updates, as seen for the Mi 8 that received the night mode output with the Mi Mix 3. As for the videos, there is the possibility for all the devices of record in 4K (2160 pixels) to 30 fps, 60 for the 8 Pro Mi. This is not a camera but we insert it here: the Face Unlock 3D system is present in the Explorer Edition. This means that unlike the standard version, which has a two-dimensional infrared recognition system, the Explorer Edition uses a system that projects points on the user's face to make the recognition more secure and accurate.

Battery

  • Mi 8 Lite: 3350 mAh;
  • My 8: 31 3400 mAh;
  • We 8 Pro: 3000 mAh;
  • Mi 8 SE: 3120 mAh;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: 3000 mAh.

This is a sensitive key. Since we know that the battery problem is very delicate, then we will be very hard: we are not there. Only the I 8 and the Lite would seem to be worthy to go on the podium, but for the rest of the devices does not seem sufficient the capacity of the battery. Now mobile devices have become necessary accessories and used in every minute; you need a battery that can support the load. A student could not get to the end of the evening with 3000 mHa! The other side of the coin, however, gives us the Quick Charge recharge for all devices, which is always very convenient.

Connectivity

  • Mi 8 Lite: 802.11 WiFi a / b / g / n / ac and Bluetooth 5.0, type C 1.0;
  • My 8: 802.11 WiFi a / b / g / n / ac and Bluetooth 5.0, type C 2.0;
  • We 8 Pro: 802.11 WiFi a / b / g / n / ac and Bluetooth 5.0, type C 2.0;
  • Mi 8 SE: 802.11 WiFi a / b / g / n / ac and Bluetooth 5.0 type C 2.0;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: 802.11 WiFi a / b / g / n / ac and Bluetooth 5.0, type C 1.0.

But how? Type C in the Explorer Edition? Yes, but we can do without it all together, with all the pros that this device has.

Memory

  • Mi 8 Lite: 4 GB 64 GB;
  • My 8: 6 GB 64, 128, 256 GB;
  • We 8 Pro: 6 GB 128 GB;
  • Mi 8 SE: 4 GB 64 GB;
  • Mi 8 Explorer Edition: 8 GB 128 GB.

Entry level better, definitely Mi 8 Lite, but top of the range IN ALL I 8 Explorer Edition. And which one would you prefer?
