Coolpad accuses Xiaomi of violating smartphone patents

Our beloved Xiaomi is experiencing a very flourishing moment for its business, just think of the fact that it is the fourth smartphone manufacturer in Europe and fifth worldwide, but also the expansion that involves it in Europe and soon also in America , but above all the recent IPO presented in Hong Kong that would give the Chinese company an estimate of almost 100 billion dollars. But the less well-known Coolpad, who sued Lei Jun's OEM for patent infringement, thinks about breaking the eggs in the basket.

Apparently, there are three patents involved in the judicial case between Coopad and Xiaomi: the latter on Friday requested the patent review board and the China Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) to void the claim for rights brought forward from Coolpad Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific as unfounded.

In particular, the complaint against Xiaomi claims that the Chinese technological giant has used the patents without any license from Coolpad. Patents that refer to the management of the app icons, notifications and user interface on some Xiaomi devices for which Coolpad has requested the interruption of the sale, including Mi Mix 2, redmi Notes 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. The minority company has also requested that Xiaomi be sentenced to pay "the economic loss" suffered from Coolpad and all legal fees.

We do not want to accuse anyone, let alone be judges to make a change in this story, but it seems absurd the timing with which Coolpad has prepared the judicial affair, just behind the pressure that sees Xiaomi involved in the global spotlight in the smartphone sector because of the IPO in progress. Coolpad is now a company out of the game especially in a market, the Chinese, which sees Huawei, OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi with shares equal to 73% of the domestic market with the remaining 27% belonging to Apple. In short, Coolpad is part of the 200 companies that produce smartphones that are struggling to grab the deviations of allowances that allow the survival of the company.

From the very beginning, Xiaomi has committed itself to protecting and respecting intellectual property rights, such as the various patent agreements signed with companies of the caliber of Qualcomm, Microsoft and Nokia. In short, we wish the best to our beloved Xiaomi, who once again is the protagonist of the envy of third parties.
