Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is official and makes screens (almost) indestructible

Corning presented a new generation of tempered glass, called Gorilla Glass Victus 2. According to the manufacturer, during its development, the main emphasis was on getting a greater resistance so that smartphone screens do not break in the event of fall. Obviously, the increased resistance has also been "extended" to the scratch and to damages of any kind. But let's not get lost in chatter and let's see this new Victus 2 in detail.

Corning introduces the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the second generation of nearly indestructible panel for smartphones

The company claims that Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is better able to withstand drops on rough surfaces such as concrete. The same level of resistance is for scratches on the panel itself. For the first case of damage, it was claimed that it can withstand a fall from a height of two meters. When designing the new glass, the manufacturer set out to make it better able to withstand drops up to the waist, one of the most common types of smartphone drops.

Corning also noted that smartphones have gotten an average of 4% heavier and 15% larger over the past 10 years, which has significantly increased the load on the screens during falls. In laboratory tests Gorilla Glass Victus 2 can withstand drops from a height of up to one meter onto a surface very similar to concrete, while the solutions of the competition they can break when they “fly” from a height of half a meter or even less. At the same time, the new glass is able to withstand drops from a height of up to two meters on a surface that imitates asphaltwhile maintaining a scratch resistance four times higher than aluminosilicate.

The first smartphones with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will hit the market in the coming months. Before that, new Corning glass debuted in Samsung devices, so it's quite possible that the novelty will be installed in the Galaxy S23 series.
