[Focus] Customizing the HOMEPAGE - MIUI 8

As many of you will know one of the main features of Android is personalization; Xiaomi with his MIUI 8 brings this concept to another level, thanks to the great community that supports it, as well as to precise choices made by the company from the very beginning.

We will therefore analyze the key steps in several 'episodes' to obtain a user experience more congenial to your needs.

In the focus of today we will analyze the main device screen, or the homepage, with background, icons and widgets.

HOMEPAGE

The first thing that catches the eye when using a technological product on a daily basis is how it looks when the screen is first activated; not by chance la home page it will be what you will see several times throughout the day and therefore it will be important to keep it clean ed intuitive.

Always put the apps you use most in However,, that is the bottom line that remains fixed even when you scroll through the pages (in my case DIALER / CONTACTS, GMAIL, WHATSAPP e TELEGRAM).

On the front page we recommend only putting applications that you open at least once a day, those that can be used at any time; I have created two folders for applications SOCIAL and those of GOOGLE I always use for my productivity, while for multimedia I always have a click MUSIC e CAMERA.

On the second page you will need to keep separate apps that you use a little more rarely (for example CLOCK and CALENDAR) from the more 'personal' ones or those we downloaded (VOCAL RESEARCH, SUPERUSER, ZOOPER WIDGET PRO, etc.), and finally create a folder with all the system applications we rarely use.

You may also have a third page if you need it.

By doing so, in just two / three pages you will be able to catalog and enclose all the applications present, which will be just a few clicks away, knowing perfectly their arrangement and obtaining a clean and effective screen in everyday use. For convenience I prefer to keep all the applications / folders on the two lines at the bottom to always be at fingertips for one-handed use.

BACKGROUND

Here the question is much simpler:

the background must be nice or should you like to you.

It can reflect your mood, you can set animated wallpapers that change several times automatically during the day, you can use a particular theme (summer, christmas, material design, nature, etc.), a superhero or your favorite team ...

The important thing is that you like it and that it is suitable for your display (do not use wallpapers that have a lower resolution than your device, or that have a different aspect ratio).

By pinch-out from the homepage you can enter the section of backgrounds pre-installed in the MIUI, but if they do not have enough knowledge that Play Store you'll find a myriad of wallet aggregator apps that will let you find what you want. Below we list the ones we tested:

ICONS (THEMES)

In the application THEMES of MIUI you will find a whole series of themes (free and paid) that change the appearance of your user interface in many parts (the navigation bar, the settings menu, the system apps, etc.); among the various aesthetic changes the one you will appreciate the most are the ICONS.

As in the background, the latter must first like you in the crafts It is in the colore; color is a very important aspect to obtain a satisfying visual effect as it is not always easy to choose the icon pack suitable for the colors of the background used. Also keep in mind that not all icon packs are complete and well finished, but the evaluation of the community users will be useful to choose.

WIDGET

Chapter apart for i widget, which we will certainly deepen with a dedicated focus later. For now we limit ourselves to saying that in choosing the widget you must always keep in mind the concepts explained so far, so it must be beautiful, it must have colors similar to the background and icons, and it must have essential information. It is no coincidence that the colors of my widget are in the icon of Telegram and in the background, but in a few pixels tell me the date and time in a minimal and informal way, just like the rest of the UI.

You can also use weather, time, date, calendar, etc. widgets depending on your needs.
