[Focus] How to Set Energy Saving for Single Applications (miui8)

Certainly one of the most important features of a smartphone is autonomy. In recent years more and more performing processors and more capacious batteries have increased performances, however energy-intensive applications and screens with increasingly larger diagonals and definitions have increased, and not by poco, the consumption. We must also consider that Android does not manage in an optimal way the applications in the background which always remain in continuous communication with the reference servers. Up to Android 5 Lollipop there was no way to intervene, while with the advent of Android 6 a thorough consumption management system on a single application was introduced by Google; we are talking about Doze.

Even with the miu 8 we can go to modify the energy saving parameters on every single application, even more in depth than Android stocks. But you have to be careful how these parameters are set because there is a risk of going to create damage. We start from the assumption that if we want to have push (ie in real time) notifications of an application this must run in the background without restriction. If we are not interested in receiving notifications, but we can do it manually, then we can set a good energy saving and get great results. By specifying, let's see how to set energy savings on my 8 mouse.

From settings we select "battery & performance" and then "manage apps battery usage".

1

Here are two sections "saving power in background" and "power saving mode". If "powering saving mode" is set to "off" the system will not intervene on energy saving and all applications will be free to remain in the background. Obviously it is recommended to keep set "on" and go to create the exceptions that interest us by entering the "choose apps" menu

2

In this section we will find all applications installed on your phone divided into "installed applications" and "system applications". At this point, we can only do the search for our application and select it. Let's take a look: some applications are key to push, like whatsapp (we certainly do not want to receive the messages after an hour from the actual receipt) then select whatsapp and we will find a new menu divided into 4 options. To be sure to receive push notifications we have to select "no restrictions". Otherwise, for example, to close popular power applications that do not affect push notifications (an example on all Facebook), we will have to select "restrict background activity" and this will end the application as soon as the screen turns off. If we want to decide on Android how to manage the application's energy savings we will have to select "miuibattery saver" with the risk that this management is not like we would like it to.

As far as the "background location" menu is concerned, I recommend that you always keep it set to "restrict" and put it on "allow" only temporarily when you need a location record (on a social, in a photo tag, etc.).

To complete the energy-saving talk it is also important to explain the autostart function. We get it from settings-permissions-autostart. Here we have to go to authorize all those applications that after a phone restart, a forced shutdown for a system error can start without manual intervention.

We always take the usual example of whatsapp, it is useful to select it and authorize it to start automatically (otherwise after a restart of the phone the application should not start until the user launches it manually). used the conditional because these settings do not always work flawlessly, it is always recommended to check that everything works properly.
