At the press conference of MediaTek Dimensity 1200 a few months ago, Lu Weibing, the general manager of Redmi, announced that his first gaming smartphone will soon be released and that it will be equipped with the Dimensity 1200 processor.
Redmi gaming phone certified in China: imminent arrival?
A few days ago, however, product director Wang Teng said on Weibo that Redmi will hold a conference for the launch of a new product in April. Some Chinese users have speculated that Redmi's gaming phone will be unveiled that day.
Well, today comes some sort of unofficial confirmation from the famous Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station. In fact, according to him, the smartphone has just been certified with the model number “M2104K10C”. This info is very useful as based on this model number we will be able to find out more details about the device whenever it is officially certified.
Digital Chat Station also revealed that Redmi's gaming phone will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1200, info we already knew, and that its code name is “Ares”.
In any case, in our opinion the most interesting fact is that something is already starting to move, with the first certifications and details that should begin to flood in the following days.
Returning to the specifications of this device much awaited by those who want maximum performance at the minimum price, the smartphone should use a flat OLED screen with a small hole for the front camera, therefore very similar to the Redmi K40. Lu Weibing also stated that this will use the same Samsung E4 screen as the Redmi K40 to bring uncompromising graphics even to a "budget" gaming phone.
We will then have the new and performing MediaTek Dimensity 1200 mentioned earlier, which uses a flagship 1 + 3 + 4 three-plex architecture, including a Cortex-A78 super core, a nine-core GPU and a six-core MediaTek 3.0 APU core.
Finally, the gaming phone should arrive with a large built-in battery of at least 5000 mAh and will be equipped with a 65 W wired flash charging. The price should instead be around 2500 yuan (320 €) in China.
