[Guide] Improve the MIUI 8 user experience - Notifications and Quick Toggles

After seeing the modes for Customize the MIUI 8 Homepage, with this short guide we will analyze some aspects that allow users Xiaomi to improve your smartphone daily use experience: today we will deal with 'notifications' and 'quick toggles'

In this sense, the Chinese company has always been recognized for the quantity and usefulness of the solutions adopted in order to make the use of its devices more satisfying and practical, therefore below we will see some features divided as follows:

  • part 1: NOTIFICATIONS and QUICK TOGGLES
  • part 2: TOUCH ASSISTANT and FINGERPRINT READER
  • part 3: PARENTAL MODE and DND (Do not Disturb Mode)

ENERGY SAVING has already been treated by my colleague Cristiano in a dedicated article that you can find , promising, while for DUAL APPS look at this address; the SECOND SPACE instead will address it with a dedicated focus later.

NOTIFICATION

By lowering the notification curtain we will see the first page, that is the screen in which all the notified events are listed, the current weather (expressed both in degrees centigrade and visually through the color and the design of the background of the upper part) and a convenient search bar at the top that incorporates a QR code scanner.

In case of notifications in the lower part of the curtain you will find a button to delete them all at the same time, while otherwise a button will be displayed in the center of the curtain that takes you back to the management settings page; here we can select app by app what we want to be notified: allow notifications, priority, if we want to first be offered a preview badge at the top of the screen, if we want them to be seen also from the lock screen, and finally 'audio', 'vibration' and 'LED' which control the respective hardware departments.

This is an example of how I set Whatsapp notifications:

QUICK TOGGLES

The presence of quick toggles in the notifications bar is not an exclusive MIUI, indeed.

Having said this, however, we must specify that the number and modality of modification of the same is more complete than other user interfaces; for example by holding down the wifi icon for a long time, the phone will take us directly to the related settings page where we can access the advanced options and other useful information.

Obviously in the first 3 lines you will need to keep the 9 toggles you use most frequently (in my case wifi - bluetooth - rotation - DND - airplane mode - GPS - data - lock screen - flashlight). Under the first three rows of icons, which are still scrollable to display another 10 toggles, you can use the fine modification bar of the light intensity in order to better adapt the brightness of your display.

In my opinion, GPS is very convenient toggle: if it is set to 'low consumption mode' and we need to use Google Maps as a navigator, the first click will activate the high precision mode while once you have finished browsing by clicking again on the GPS icon the same will not be turned off but will return to low consumption mode (which is very useful for those who usually keep the geolocation mode activated but do not want to consume too much battery)!

Also on this page at the bottom we will find a button that will take us to the main settings page.

Consider that if you don't like this division into two distinct pages between notifications and quick toggles, you can set the display in a single screen that will have all the toggles at the top scrollable sideways and below the notifications. To get this view just go to: settings - notifications - status bar style and select the 'combined' item.

Referring you to the second part, which will not be long in coming, I wish everyone a good week!
