With the expensive gasoline, with the ever-mad traffic, with the increasingly current problem of pollution, it goes without saying that the means of transport increasingly preferred by users has become the electric scooter. Economical, easily transportable even on public transport and “agile” in city traffic, it is certainly one of the best products for getting around in medium-short distances. But today there are many models, a jungle in which it is difficult to extricate themselves especially for the less experienced .. and at this point we intervene who will talk to you in depth about the models that we are lucky enough to be able to test. Today it is the turn of a branded product Xiaomi, the Himo L2 Max.
Himo is a line of products of the Xiaomi ecosystem, so it is essential, when there is a choice, to focus on products that give us a sort of reliability only for the parent company that produces them. Of course even more important for devices that are a means of transport, therefore they should also be safe for our safety. Himo L2 Max is certified CE from SGS Lab, with ENI17128 standard for the maximum of our safety.
But let's get to our scooter!
CONFEZIONE
The scooter arrives well packed and inside the package where you will also find:
- Instruction book with the Italian language
- Screws for fixing handlebar / front light with respective Allen key
- Tire inflation pump
- Power supply (ok Italian sockets)
The scooter arrives already assembled and the steps to make it operational are very few and in order:
- Mount the handlebar: you just have to insert the handlebar tube with that of the main tube and fix it with 4 screws, 2 in front and 2 behind
2. Straighten and secure the main tube using the special stop. To lock and unlock it (to close the scooter) it will be necessary to press the button on the top left of the stop.
3. Mount the front light by securing it with the screw. Once fixed it will be possible to adjust it in inclination
Once these preliminary operations are finished we will be ready to have fun with our beautiful electric scooter.
FUNCTIONS AND EQUIPMENT
On the handlebar we find all the control center of the scooter and the display that will show us the information necessary for our journey. But let's see them in detail:
- Multifunction display (more on that later)
- On the left rear wheel mechanical / electronic / magnetic disc brake
- On the right electronic brake (will only work with scooter in motion) front wheel
- Bell
- On / off / mode change key
- Front light switch button
The knobs are rubber and have great grip, the speed control feels sturdy and well done. The large and rubberized support platform under which we find the battery, 40 cells and 10.4Ah, which guarantees us an autonomy of about 40Km (with an average of the various modes). The complete recharge takes place in about 6 hours via the supplied 42V and 2A charger. The brushless motor develops a power of 350w with peaks reaching 420W.
The 2 10 "anti-puncture wheels are covered by comfortable mudguards, in the rear a support for the license plate and the rear red light. On the sides of the wheels we find 4 reflectors. There are 2 reflectors also in front and behind just under the lights. The rear magnetic disc brake will also be able to recover some energy when braking.
We then find a front light that we can turn on / off with the button on the handlebar and a red rear light that will turn on every time we brake.
DISPLAY AND PERFORMANCES
The display provides us with the basic information which are:
- Speed
- Remaining autonomy (4 notches scale)
- Mode of work
- Front light switch on
There are 3 movement modes and can be selected using the power button. Just click twice quickly to switch between:
- Eco mode - blue color - maximum speed 5Km / h
- Standard mode - orange color - maximum speed 15Km / h
- Sport mode - red color - maximum speed 25Km / h
We remind you that, to date, the CDS rules say that on urban routes the maximum speed is 20Km / h while in pedestrian areas it is 6Km / h.
As for the maximum transportable weight is 100Kg, the maximum slope that can be traveled is 20%! There is no lack of certification for IPX4 waterproofing, so you can also use it in the rain but do not go through too high puddles.
DIMENSIONS AND TRANSPORT
Let's start by saying that this scooter is certainly not a featherweight, it weighs almost 19Kg (to be exact 18.8) and measures 118cm x 49.5cm x 120cm while closed it measures 118cm x 49.5cm x 49cm (length - width - height) .
To close it, just unlock the catch and then the lever that we find in front under the light, at this point we can lower the main tubular and fix it to the hook on the platform that you will have to lift in advance. In this way it will be firm and easily transportable. The operation is carried out in a few seconds and I certainly found it better than many other models.
HOW IS IT GOING
Having explained all the technical details, let's get to the point, how does our Himo L2 Max work? Well, I would say very well! The first thing that pleasantly surprised me is that, even if it does not have dedicated shock absorbers on the wheels, it manages to cushion the various gradients and imperfections of the road surface well. I tested it for a few kilometers on a cycle path and I had to face parts of dirt road, bridges, potholes and despite this it behaved well. Obviously it is not the "off-rode" scooter born for these routes, but if you find yourself in a situation of medium difficulty you will have no problems whatsoever.
Another thing that certainly gives a lot of driving safety is the double brake, remember the mechanical rear one and the electronic front one. As with any device of this kind, you will have to "get your hands on it" and understand how they both act, in order to have a good perception of the braking action. At first you may have some difficulties and surely you will brake too much, but after a few kilometers you will already be perfectly able to operate without problems.
I found myself particularly at ease, unlike other scooters, due to the large and "safe" platform thanks to the rubberized part. In fact, I managed to stay comfortably, with both legs side by side and not one in front and one behind. It looks like a look of poco account, but after a few km I assure you that it can make a difference.
Speed is a very subjective aspect, as far as I'm concerned 20 / 25Km / h are more than enough for an electric scooter, the purpose of which should not be to make us recover any delays that we accumulate during the day .. it is in fact very dangerous to overcome certain speeds and I assure you that a fall beyond these could become very painful .. therefore also from this point of view fully satisfied.
