Well fortunately there is an alternative method, that non requires ROOT permissions nor the use of recovery as TWRP, but at the same time the procedure described below will not always return the desired result. In fact, I state that sometimes the chosen theme may not fit perfectly, creating a sort of hybrid theme with the default one proposed by the Temi app. In simpler words we could see only the font applied, or the wallpaper etc .. To this unfortunately I add that in some cases after a certain period of time (usually half an hour) the system will automatically reinitialize the whole thing to the default theme . This is a bug that has already been reported to the developer and that we hope will be resolved soon, but there's no harm in trying.
Install third-party themes on MIUI 9.5 / Alternative Method No Root No TWRP
Download the Mi Rape app by clicking on the button below
Once installed the Mi Rape app go to the File Manager and retrieve the file related to the theme you want to install (the file has the extension .MTZ)
At this point proceed to rename it, changing the extension from .MTZ to .ZIP
Now click on the newly renamed file and extract the contents
Now open the Mi Rape application previously installed and click on the three dots on the top left
Now choose the New Project entry
In the screen that appears, fill in the fields at your convenience and click on the Save button
At this point click on the file you just created and choose the Edit Project item
From the screen that appears clicking on the top left above the three dots and choose the Import File item
Now scroll through the list until you find the folder you previously unzipped
Once inside select all the files except the one named "Description.xml" and confirm with OK
Now select the three dots at the top left but this time choose the Import Folder option
Choosing again the previously unpacked folder, import all the folders contained in it, with the exception of the folder Preview
Go back to the main application screen and click on the previously created file
From the menu that appears, select the PACK TO MTZ item
As soon as the program has finished generating the processed theme, click on the APPLY button next to the file you created

Downloading the APK it says it is from May, so the problem reported to the developer that after half an hour the theme returns to the default one has not been solved yet, right?
