Lei Jun announces some details of the Xiaomi Mi MIX II

Launched in October, it is Xiaomi Mi MIX was one of last year's surprises but the development team is already working on its evolution.

Su Weibo, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, announced poco does some details of the second model of this fantastic and superlative smartphone, which will be named Mi MIX II and will be developed by the French designer Philippe Starck.

Lei Jun has explicitly said that, in agreement with Starck, they are trying to develop a new "prototype" with a display that covers the front of the smartphone (100% of display-ratio) and without any physical button.

This is an idea that is going to head to many designers and in fact a market analyst, Sun Changxu, talks about how Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), is trying to push the display / surface ratio limit with its new iPhone 8. I will not go into the supposed details of the melon phone but you just need to know that it's about removing the physical home button on Apple and any other button on the side panel.

After beating on the time the direct Asian competitors - but also the world - Xiaomi could therefore be the first manufacturing company, at least Chinese, to submit one smartphone without physical buttons.

By the way the Xiaomi collaborator designer is not new to prototypes "button-less": the device shown in the image above, in fact, called ALO-phone, is the prototype of a phone without a display equipped with an intelligent assistant that can learn the user's habits and read directly what the camera takes. Of course we talk about science fiction at the moment and, with all sincerity, I do not see how a smartphone without a display can be useful for a norm.

Of course, you will say "eh but it's a prototype". Already. It is and prototypes are made to understand so many things, including shape, size, materials, but not actual functioning.

As you can see, the prototype was made by Thomson and may be the incipit for a total revolution in the design of smartphones, in part initiated by Xiaomi with his own We MIX.

Would you like a smartphone without physical buttons? Would you feel too fragile?
