In this 2020 the tenth anniversary since the founding of Xiaomi has been held, although in reality 9 years have passed since the first device was made. When we talk about Xiaomi smartphones, the first thing that comes to mind is the very high specific price ratio. However, the brand has been criticized in the past due to out of stock problems and consequently the difficulty in purchasing the smartphone at launch.
Lei Jun: Here's how we implemented innovation, quality and availability
Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has just released an interview in China in which he talked about the different problems encountered and resolved by the brand in recent years. With a special focus on stock problems.
Lei Jun began the interview by declaring that in the last 5 years the company has been improved in three main areas: innovation, quality and availability. The CEO refers to R&D (research and development), in 2019 Xiaomi has in fact decided to invest about 75 billion yuan (€ 9,4 billion) in the year 2020, but in reality the figure will be higher by at least 10 billion yuan (€ 1,2bn).
For a company like Xiaomi, with only 10 years of life, it is something extraordinary to see how much is invested in R&D and how much we have been able to innovate in these few years.

Lei Jun then spoke of the quality of the Xiaomi devices:
My biggest pride last year was to win the National Quality Award which rewarded me for giving importance and promoting "quality" on our devices.

Finally, the third and final point was on availability. In this regard, Lei Jun said that:
We have had stock problems for a long time, too long. I later found out that we had problems with the production chain's capacity. Previously, we thought that there was too much demand from users, when in reality we were not producing enough devices.
Today it is rarely heard that there are waiting problems to buy a Xiaomi smartphone. This is because our production capacity can now reach 15 million units per month.

So according to Lei Jun the problems of lack of stock seem to have been solved in China. This should translate into a better experience for us in Italy too, with devices that will arrive faster or that will in any case be easier to buy from the Asian country.
