Live event presentation Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi Band 3, MIUI 10 (and much more)

We are friends, finally the time has come that all the global Fans have been waiting for over a year. In this 31 May at 14: 00, Xiaomi will hold the launch event of the company's new flagship at cwithin the sporty Dayun Center of Shenzen, a new location compared to other choices in the past.

These days not only the rumors have delighted us with lots of information and various leaks, but It was Lei Jun himself who surprised us by confirming that in this conference the Xiaomi Mi 8 will be unveiled to the world, as well as the Mi Band 3 and the new MIUI 10 interface, while an official teaser of the last hours revealed that also a new VR viewer will keep company to the triptych of products just reported.

my 8

Xiaomi Mi 8 will be the sequel to Mi 6 and the reason why the numbering is skipped seems to be simply dictated by the fact that the new top of the range is so amazing that it went beyond expectations. It is unclear whether we will see a device with a fingerprint sensor integrated into the dispay, if this blessed notch is present and also the relevant 3D face recognition technology, but all Xiaomi officials who spoke of Mi 8 have always stated that the device will be a concentrate of technology and could even integrate some of it in a world preview. Among other things, the latest teasers published by the Chinese OEM suggest that Mi 8 will arrive officially also in other 8 countries including Italy and that the device could be presented in one Avengers style variant, a bit like happened with One Plus 6.

Without a doubt if the Facial Recognition 3D will be present, will decree the Mi 8 like the first Android smartphone to integrate this feature but let's not forget that the last days brought to our attention also a variant, with a less graceful design and with a new processor, the Snapdragon 710. We are talking about Xiaomi Mi 8 SE that together with the older brother already seems available for pre-order in some Chinese Mi Stores, but we do not add more meat to the fire that could distract us from the event, because it is now missing poco and I invite you to follow us so as not to miss all the highlights in real time.

As always, it is clear that the news that I will gradually add is in chronological order. You are ready?

my 8

Finally we are there, there are very few minutes left until the launch event of Xiaomi Mi 8. People begin to enter and find a place. There are so many of them and the day looks really good. Apparently the testimonial Kris Wu stated that there are multiple versions of Mi 8.

There are many Mi Fans present at the event, a first estimate has registered 7000, and there will probably be a slight delay in starting with the event as many are still looking for place to assist.

The visionary entrepreneur, Lei Jun, took the stage and began listing the successes of Xiaomi that led the company to expand also in France and Italy. But immediately you notice the new Mi Band 3 on the wrist of the CEO. In the Indian market, Xiaomi's performance was particularly brilliant, with a market share of 30,3%. At the same time, it entered the market of 14 overseas countries.

But development is nothing without an innovation that also passes through the MIUI interface that is now released in the 10 version. Around 190 million users are active every day, which on average spend about 4,5 hours a day on their smartphone. In the era of smartphones in full screen, mobile phone systems must also keep up. Full-screen gestures in MIUI have earned a lot of praise. But in MIUI 10, we will go further because we introduce new gesture management activities best suited to this type of full screen screens using the vertical space of the latter.

In user interface styles, such as the notification bar, MIUI 10 exceeds the limit of each functional area, making the interface style more engaging and more in line with a full-screen visual experience. But the conference proceeds talking about XIAO AI, which now boasts 22 millions of users who use it in various daily scenarios. The typical scenario of use is driving but could be perilocoso and that is why the developers of MIUI 10 have developed a particular guide mode. Also in MIUI 10 will be created an ecosystem of voice services that will allow you to no longer open each application manually, but just dictate a sentence.

MIUI 10 will also improve the photographic performance of all smartphones, especially those with a single camera that perhaps dream of the classic bokeh effect that devices such as Redmi Note 5 and Mi Mix 2S give their users. MIUI 10 in fact will integrate a new background blur algorithm able to identify the subject and obtain with a single camera the result that would have a double module.

MIUI 10 will be even faster than MIUI 9 but above all it will be faster than any other interface. MIUI 10 learns and predicts user behavior, preloads the application via AI and allows it to start immediately. The experience of the Mi Home ecosystem will also be improved, making many products compatible. On average, about 236 system notifications are received every day, really creating a continuous annoyance, but MIUI 10 will be able to silence those that are generally not important, always learning from our habits.

In MIUI 10 will be integrated new ringtones inspired by the environment and its elements, such as water, sand, wind etc .. in order to create a sound and not annoying relaxation. In addition, the alarm will also have these sounds making the awakening softer. Finally, by July the devices that are included in the list of supported devices will be updated. Two installments update: one in June and the other in July, but additions to the list are not excluded.

Here we are it is the turn of Xiaomi Mi 8 which celebrates the eighth anniversary of the company. Mi 8 will have a Mi 6-style curved design but definitely improved as the frame uses a high-strength aluminum alloy while maintaining lightness in weight. Certainly there is no lack of 2.5D glass processing and finishes, creating a sort of arched profile. At the design level Xiaomi Mi 8 will adopt the notch but it is possible at the software level to remove it at will. Anyway the display will be beautiful as it will use a 6,21 inch Samsung AMOLED screen, with a screen ratio of 18,7: 9, and 88,5% NTSC color rendering with 60000: 1, 600 nits contrast of brightness. There will be 4 colors available including white, black, gold and blue.

In terms of touch & feel, Xiaomi Mi 8 can be described as “round and thin”: 6,21-inch screen embedded in a traditional 5,5-inch mobile phone and a low weight of only 175 g. Mi 8 will not only be beautiful but also powerful thanks to the Snapdragon 845 processor which scores over 300000 points in the AnTuTu test.

On the camera side, Xiaomi Mi 8 uses the same module as Xiaomi MIX 2S. After two months of professional training in the test lab, the Xiaomi Mi 8's DxO score reached 105 points! Compared to iPhone X and Huawei P20, Xiaomi Mi 8 returns more detailed and precise images even in low light conditions where everything is more visible. There will be AI technology that at the software level makes available up to 206 shooting scenarios by optimizing the parameters in real time.

But on Xiaomi Mi 8 there will be a new function related to the AI technology that is the lighting effect. In practice, the intelligent recognition of the background environment allows you to accurately map the subject and select different filters to artistically process the images. Seven types of filter verses including rainbow and cinema style.

Here are some sample shots with a summary of camera specifications.

At the selfie camera level we will have instead an optics from 20 megapixel enriched by the software Beauty AI that will establish a selfie worthy of a photographer.

But let's get to the plate, that is the unlocking of the smartphone through the recognition of the face that will take place through an infrared camera. Xiaomi guarantees the security of the unlock that will not be in any way evaded by videos or photos. Moreover, even in dark environments, unlocking is guaranteed.

At the same time, Xiaomi Mi 8 is equipped with an NFC sensor with "Ancestral" function, which supports different bank cards, subway journeys and much more, with an active service in approximately 167 city of China. Another novelty concerns the GPS module and the improved accuracy.  At present, all mobile phones in the world use L1 band GPS navigation and the maximum range of positioning error is up to 300 meters. Since 2010, the most accurate positioning is given by the L5 band, which returns a theoretical error of only 30 meters. Xiaomi Mi 8 will do better as it will integrate both, so Dual GPS with dual frequency with a clear improvement from 3 to 5 times, with support for all world map services.

Xiaomi Mi 8 will be available in 3 several memory cuts from 64, 128 and 256 GB, all with 6 GB of RAM. Prices will be 2699 yuan (about 361 euro) for 6 / 64 version, 2999 yuan (about 401 euro = for 6 / 128 and 3299 yuan (about 441 euro) for 6 / 256 version.

Someone will surely have noticed that Xiaomi Mi 8 has the fingerprint sensor on the back and therefore many wonder why the rumors have insisted so much on the fact that this was integrated into the display? The simple answer lies in Mi 8 Explorer which, moreover, boasts a very particular design as the back is made of transparent material, giving a view of the internal components.

Not only will this new Mi 8 Explorer be the first Android smartphone to be equipped with the Face ID unlocking function, using 3D technology which, however, differs from what is offered by the iPhone X, as it uses different information collection models which, according to the company, are safer and more precise.

Based on the Face ID function integrated in Mi 8 Explorer, the Mi Meng function has also been developed, i.e. animated emojis that not only imitate our facial expressions but can also be shared with friends. In this case, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer will boast 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage and a list price of 3699 yuan, about 495 euros.

But it does not end here because the company has also presented Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, which is aimed at that slice of users who prefer screens with smaller diagonals than the usual but do not want to give up having a top of the range in their hands. Mi 8 SE is equipped with a Samsung AMOLED screen from 5,8 inches, but the smartphone's dimensions are equivalent to those of a traditional 5,2 inch mobile phone. In this case, however, the design is less graceful, they return to the one proposed initially by Mi Mix first generation with a glass body and 2.5D processing.

In terms of configuration, Xiaomi 8 SE is the first smartphone in the world to be equipped with the Snapdragon 710 processor. Top CPU with 10nm production process that allows lower power consumption and better performance, compared to the previous generation SD 660. Thanks to the system-wide optimization with MIUI 10 and Snapdragon 710 chipset, the Xiaomi Mi 8 If it can last longer than a day of heavy use despite the battery is a unit from 3120 mAh.

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is equipped with a dual AI camera consisting of 12 + 5 megapixel sensors on the back and 20 megapixels on the front. It has not been specified but it should be the same equipment seen on Redmi Note 5 Indian version. Here are some samples and the price that will be equal to 1799 yuan (about 241 euros) for the 4/64 GB version while for the 6/64 GB version we go up to 1999 yuan (about 268 euros). In short, a popular version of the top of the range that honestly does not mind.

In summary 3 are Xiaomi Mi 8 different models to be presented today: Mi 8 standard, Mi 8 Explorer and Mi 8 SE. Which one do you prefer?

According to authoritative statistics, Xiaomi's TV shipments continued to grow in 2018 and reached the top of the Chinese market in April 2018! For this reason, the 4-inch Mi TV 75 is launched today but despite the exaggerated size, the new TV boasts a thickness of only 11,4 mm. Xiaomi Mi TV 4 from 75 inches offers 4K resolution and is equipped with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory as well as sixth generation quadcore 64-bit Amlogic processor. For these characteristics, on average, such a TV would sell for at least 13900 yuan but Xiaomi offers its 4-inch Mi TV 75 at the staggering price of 8999 yuan (about 1205 euros).

To all this there is a new product. The new generation Xiaomi Mi VR, defined as an all-in-one, integrates everything inside, such as the remote control. The new viewer was created with Oculus. The new Xiaomi Mi VR adopts a screen that offers a resolution in 2K that greatly improves visibility and angle of view, reducing the sense of annoyance and dizziness. It will be possible to enjoy multimedia content in high resolution as if we were facing a large screen. Not needing a smartphone the Xiaomi Mi VR all-in-one integrates an internal memory up to 64 GB. In fact there are two versions to be sold: 32 GB with price of 1499 yuan (about 200 euro) and the version from 64 GB at the price of 1799 yuan (about 241 euro)

But one of the protagonist products of the rumors concerning this event was the Mi Band 3 which today finally comes to life on the Shenzen stage. More complete user experience characterized by a 0,78-inch OLED touch display, larger than the previous generation, where it will be possible to directly view WeChat, SMS and caller ID, etc. It also improves the degree of waterproofing reaching up to 50 meters while the battery life reaches over 20 days. The Mi Band 3 strap uses a skin-friendly material that has passed the biocompatibility certification and the European environmental protection certification. The basic version will cost only 169 yuan (about 23 euros) but there is also a version with an NFC sensor that will allow some payment functions and will come at a price of 199 yuan (about 27 euros).

The conference ends where, moreover, many new Mi Band 3 were honored. Below you will find a summary photo of everything that was presented today. Pre-orders are active in China while official sales will begin on June 5th. Thanks for joining us.

Nerd, Geek, Netizen, terms that do not belong to me. Simply myself, technology lover and provocative as Xiaomi does with his products. High quality at fair prices, a real provocation for the other most famous brands.
