The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is Official: Master of speed or OnePlus Killer?

The highly anticipated Xiaomi Pocophone F1 has finally become a reality in the Indian capital of New Delhi and just as we thought it did not disappoint!

The flagship killer was presented by Alvin Tse, the CEO of Poco Global, which according to the same is a Xiaomi sub-brand, and as such has in its hands the freedom to create what it prefers but with both monetary support and R&D (research and development) of the Chinese giant.

Tse reveals that the Poco F1 was created to bridge the gap between the top of the range for sale between 9oo / 1000 euros and mid-range smartphones that always have a compromise between functionality, specifications and price.

The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is instead a complete terminal that mounts a latest generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 that has allowed it to reach over 290.000 points on the Antutu benchmark program. To achieve this score without damaging the smartphone, the Poco F1 was equipped with a liquid cooling system called “LiquidCool”, this technology allows 300% more heat dissipation than previous methods.

Together with the powerful processor also needs a good amount of RAM, in fact we find up to 8GB of the LPDDR4X type, instead the internal memory reaches a maximum of 256GB using UFS2.1 technology, the fastest on the market, and expandable with microSD cards of other 256GB. Everything is then powered by a 4000mAh battery, above the average of 3500mAh and well beyond the 3300mAh of the OnePlus 6; obviously it can be recharged at high speed thanks to the support of Quick Charge 3.0.

Regarding the design, Poco confirmed the plastic construction of the device, which doesn't make it look very premium in appearance. But as was also mentioned at the conference, most customers use a cover on their device, so there would be no practical difference to having a glass or metal body, other than to increase manufacturing costs.

Inside this plastic body, however supported by a metal chassis, we have a large 6.1-inch display with Full HD + resolution, a maximum brightness of 500 nits and a contrast of 1.500: 1. Above the display then we find a 20MP selfie camera and a screen unlock system that uses infrared rays to recognize the face. This is basically the same system we find on the Xiaomi Mi 8 (in the normal variant), but not that of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition which uses a more advanced system. Also on top there is also the call box that can be used as a second speaker to get a stereo sound.

The photographic industry consists of a main sensor from 12MP (the Sony IMX363) paired with a 5MP camera produced by Samsung. The cameras support Dual-Pixel technology for ultra-fast autofocus, have 12 million points of focus and a pixel width of 1.4um. Obviously we find an AI (artificial intelligence) to help improve the quality of the photos depending on the subject in front of the lens and the lighting conditions.

The Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is available in three colors: Red Red, Steel Blue and Graphite Black; also there will be a version called "Armored Edition" in which the back of the smartphone will be covered with Kevlar fiber, which according to Xiaomi is much more "cool".

Obviously, as we had already seen in previous rumors, the smartphone arrives with a MIUI based on Android 8.1 Oreo created specifically for Poco (with Android 9 Pie coming towards the end of the year). This ad hoc fairy skin should make it smoother and faster than other devices with the same hardware, both Xiaomi and for example the competitor OnePlus 6.

Now only one very important detail is missing: the price! Xiaomi Pocophone F1 was launched at the incredible price of 20999 Indian rupees, which in euros are around € 260 for the 6GB / 64GB version, the 6GB / 128GB variant instead costs around € 300, finally the most performing model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory will be sold for around € 360. The smartphone will go on sale on the Indian website Flipkart and Mi.com starting from 29 August.

A phone I would take! Had it been Android One it would have made even more sense to me, at least as a differentiation from the Mi8.
It will be a coincidence that the rear looks like the OnePlus One? 😜
