Lu Weibing explains the problems behind Xiaomi's 100W recharge

Among most important news of 2019 presented by Xiaomi, even if not yet put on the market, there is the top up at 100W. Data in hand, with this power it is possible to recharge a cell of a smartphone from 4000 mAh in 17 minutes only. Much is being debated about the usefulness of this technology as users are divided into two sides: those who want more capacity and those who want more power. Quoting the great sprinter Carl Lewis, personally I think that "Power is nothing without control"And from this statement also Lu Weibing, general manager of Xiaomi, seems to move to describe the problems behind the 100W charging of Xiaomi. Will there be much to wait before seeing it on the brand's smartphones?

Lu Weibing explains the problems behind Xiaomi's 100W recharge

The ninety piece of the brand says that many are interested in the application of top up at 100W on smartphones. However, this interest must also concern the downsidesi.e. those that are still unresolved or about to be resolved. In particular he quotes 5 key points for which this technology cannot yet be placed on the market.

  1. Loss of the real capacity of the charging cell: he explains that the higher the charging power, the higher the speed, the greater the loss of battery capacity. This means premature wear of the compartment in question and since Xiaomi cares about this aspect (being one of the features that never gives problems, to be honest), it has no intention of allowing this thing on its devices. A preliminary estimate made by the company is that the capacity of the 100W fast charge battery it loses around 20% of its total capacity compared to a quick charge from Mi Charge Turbo 30W. In short from a 5000 mAh it passes to a 4000 mAh;
  2. In itself it is difficult to create a scheme, a structure operating 10 times out of 10 of this very high voltage technology;
  3. Performance speech: the focus of this point is how to make 100W charging not only accessible from a technical point of view but also sustainable from the point of view of the times without the battery being affected in the long run;
  4. Safety: as everyone will imagine there are gods safety standards to be respected when building a smartphone and even the battery department wants its stakes. Be adapter, that the charging wire, as well as the connector on the smartphone they must be built in a particular way and not like the "standard" ones we know. Think of Oppo who uses five security measures for his SuperVOOC Flash Charge 2.0 65W.
  5. Last but not least is to predict on the smartphone both 100W wired and wireless charging, possibly 30W. Joining these two realities will not be easy from a technical point of view for Xiaomi.

These are ultimately the difficulties that Xiaomi encountered behind experimenting with 100W charging which, in any case, seems to have almost reached maturity. But the question we ask ourselves is: will it be worth it? But above all in terms of final cost, it is a sustainable speech?
