Unboxing

Is it a charger that you expect from the box? Like many Chinese companies, it is now a fashion to find recycled cardboard to protect electronic products.

The Luming LUM40W is no less and offers a very well organized box that contains the charger and power cord AC in bipolar European format.

Design and materials

The design of the Lumsing LUM40W is very linear and clean, measures 9,2 x 5,8 x 2,6 cm and weighs about 200g. All is made of black thermoplastic material (fire retardant polycarbonate) and is very robust and resistant to shocks and scratches.

The shapes are a little bit sharp and sometimes scratchy but they always maintain an adequate elegance. On the front they find space 5 well spaced USB ports, while on the opposite side there is the AC socket to which the supplied cable is to be connected.

All Black. No lights or lights. Great for environments where it is good to preserve the darkness, like the bedrooms.

Technology and usability

The technology of this device is a bit private. Lumsing LUM40W does not let much of her heart leak, no one has ever wanted to split it in two to give this news to the world, but she was sure the presence of a micro-controller devoted to management of current flows to the 5 USB ports so ensure maximum charging speed to the connected device.

Always remaining within the limits of maximum power available and dictated by 2 important data:

Maximum current available from the single USB output = 3A

Maximum total current payable by the system = 8A

All this translates into 40w of power fully achieved in "cold" temperatures given the generosity of the case, and enough to load at the maximum speed two iPad Air and three iPhones 6 at the same time.

Test

I have submitted this device to many tests, more oriented to the assessment of the load rather than keeping the maximum current promises delivered.

I was interested test the small micro-controller and see how it behaves with deeply different devices: a pair of Bluetooth 4.0 headphones, a Smartwatch, a WiFi mobile router and two smartphones of similar power but one Qualcomm and one Mediatek.

Here are the results after a first settling:

From these results it is easy to conclude that the micro-controller is kept LOW, does not exaggerate with the outputs, and does not tend to overcharge the recharging batteries. At the expense of speed, but to guarantee lower charging temperatures and extended battery life.

Price and conclusions

Stylish, easy to use, with no annoying shots, it does not heat up and tear well 5 chargers with a single AC power cord. Your home outlets will thank you.

Curiosity

Unfortunately the PS3 DualShock3 controller is not recognized from the micro controller and therefore does not work with these types of accessories ... I have tried it.
