Horizontal slide mechanism and camera under the display shown in the new Xiaomi patents

Always in motion our beloved company that never tires of turning out patents for possible smartphones to be launched in the future but above all smartphones OF the future. While some times, like we saw days ago, Xiaomi decide to to copy paro and pact a design already known, other times it has the brilliant (this time really) idea of create projects that upset the forms that now we usually see in a mobile device. This happened a few days ago, with the presentation of two new patents for smartphones. As we will see, these are not the only ones to have been presented since even a patent for the camera under the display he appeared a few hours later.

We begin to talk about the patents concerning his Xiaomi devices presented at the CNIPA (Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration), an organization set up to collect the new projects of Chinese brands. In the first of the two devices we can see a slide mechanism that is the master. Unlike the one presented on Mi Mix 3 which is upward oriented, this is oriented to the right (or sinsitra?). In fact, to open it you will not need to move a part of the body by sliding the rear part upwards, but you will have to make a slide in a horizontal direction.

In the images above we see the device in its entirety: front side and back side. The display design is of type full screen even if on the left you can see, at the end of the screen on the left, a space that does not include glass in any way but only a part of the body. This is where the camera: in this case we only see a double sensor. From open, the device will appear as in the third photo (top left): note that a will be formed small step at the time of opening (always third photo but on the right).

Before continuing, let us remember that it is not said that Xiaomi presents one or both of these smartphones: being patents the brand has the right not to use them and therefore could remain a dream.

Now let's move on to the second device which is one and all in all folding smartphone. In a similar way to the brand new one Motorola RAZR this folds vertically and presents a retractable photographic compartment, a bit like Redmi K20 If we want. The difference, however, is that in this case we will not have a single sensor that will make "head" from the body, but three. This means that a nice piece of body will come out from the back side of the smartphone.

On the left we see the front side which, surprisingly, does not present any "chin" that is the chin. In fact, even for existing Xiaomi full screen devices we know that a small empty space steals the screen, thus preventing full exploitation of the entire lower side. In the photograph on the right we see instead the back of the device: what you see at the top is a section where you know where it will be housed the camera. This will enter and exit with a very pronounced pop up mechanism and will include more sensors in it. To finish this smartphone, as a good habit, it will be folding.

Camera under the Xiaomi display

But now let's move on to the really important piece of news: the camera under the display. We know that this is already present on the market but also that our beloved brand wants to bring users a different type of technology than the existing one. In fact it was reported that Xiaomi wants to use some sort of invisible sensor on the screen, which hides itself from using it and therefore can avoid holes of any kind. It seems that he has also filed a patent for this.

In the first image we can see a cut section of the device. Under the heading FOV a cone depicts how wide the will be camera field of view below the display. The sensor, built in a special way thanks to high reflectance materials, would be able to remain hidden under the screen and remain "invisible" to the eye when using the device. According to reported, it will be possible (at software level) command the pixels belonging to the different sections in an autonomous and separate manner, so as to lead to this sensor invisibility. QWhen the region of the light control component is in a transmission state, i corresponding pixels are disabled to allow the light emitted by the first region to pass through the screen. Many complicated words but it seems that at a theoretical level it works. We just have to wait for the camera under the display ... maybe on the Mi Mix 4?
