Today, the launch conference of the new MediaTek Dimensity 820 was held in China. Lu Weibing, president of the Xiaomi China group and general manager of the Redmi brand, announced that Redmi will be the first brand to equip the new chip.

Lu Weibing also specified that Redmi will launch a new X series product line in the near future; with the first one being the Redmi 10X we've been talking about for several weeks.
The DG of Redmi then pointed out that the MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip could be the most powerful medium-high-end 5G processor in 2020 and that on AnTuTu it has scored over 400.000 points (image below). Redmi will therefore collaborate with MTK to create 5G terminals with high performance and the best user experience for users interested in 5G connectivity.
According to official data, the Dimensity 820 is based on a 7nm production process. The CPU integrates one of the best 5G modems in the world, then we have a top-of-the-range multi-core architecture and an energy efficient independent AI processor (APU3.0).
More specifically, we discover that the Dimensity 820 is composed of 4 × Cortex A76 2.6GHz + 4 × Cortex A55 2.0GHz, while the GPU is a Mali-G57 MC5. There is support for 5G dual carrier aggregation, 5G + 5G dual card dual standby, SA and NSA dual mode 5G.
The chip is also equipped with MediaTek 5G UltraSave energy-saving technology. The MediaTek spokesman points out that the exclusive 5G UltraSave technology is able to dynamically adjust the modem's operating mode based on network conditions and data transmission conditions, as well as power and operating frequency. In other words, the chipset will reduce the consumption of 5G as much as possible, which is very important as the new technology has higher consumption bases than 4G.
The MediaTek Dimensity 820 will not miss a video game optimization engine called MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0. This new feature will serve to increase the performance of games, network, peripherals and much more.
Finally, the Dimensity 820 supports displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 + and up to 16 GB of RAM
