MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will see a 30% improvement on single core (leak)

MediaTek is all set to launch its next flagship processor, the Dimensity 9400, with the presentation scheduled for October, anticipating the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, set for October 21st. well, according to a recent leak from Digital Chat Station, the Dimensity 9400 will offer a 30% improvement in single-core performance over its predecessor.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400

Based on benchmarks, this increase over the Dimensity 9300 (which scored 2.207 in Geekbench 6.2) suggests a potential score of around 2869 for the Dimensity 9400. This would put it very close to the single-core performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which has a score of 2.884. This performance increase may be due to MediaTek's collaboration with Arm in the development of the Cortex-X925 CPU core, codenamed Blackhawk.

Furthermore, the leak suggests that the Dimensity 9400 achieves this performance using only 30% of the power consumed by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for similar tasks, highlighting a focus on efficiency.

The Dimensity 9300 featured an all-core performance design, a strategy that will likely continue with the 9400. While this approach increases raw power, it can cause thermal throttling. However, the Dimensity 9400's reported efficiency gains, along with the use of Samsung's faster 5Gbps LPDDR10,7x memory modules, could address these thermal issues and position the chip as a strong contender in the smartphone processor market.

Both the Dimensity 9400 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are expected to be produced on TSMC's N3 process node, leveling the playing field in terms of raw power.

The real wildcard in this next generation could be Samsung's Exynos 2500. It is said to mark a return for Samsung's mobile chip division, using the 3GAP process node and incorporating innovative GAAFET (Gate-All-Around Field-Effect Transistor) technology instead of the traditional FinFET design.

Finally, there are rumors of an integrated GPU based on RDNA 3, suggesting that the Exynos 2500 could become a strong contender in the mobile gaming arena.
