MediaTek will continue to dominate Qualcomm for a long time

The eternal struggle between good and evil, some would say. In reality, these are two simple companies competing for market leadership. It has always been the law of the world of technology: MediaTek vs Qualcomm. We often wonder which of the two companies is the best and Qualcomm wins. But to be honest, purely in terms of sales, the Taiwanese giant continues to be better than the US one and to say it is not us, but Counterpoint Research.

Is MediaTek Better Than Qualcomm? That's the wrong question to ask: no one is better than no one, but if we look at recent success we can see that it's getting the better of it.

According to data revealed by the well-known analytics company, in 2021 MediaTek achieved record revenue of $ 17.6 billion, up 53% compared to the previous year. The company's revenues grow thanks to investments in 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and the development of low-power technologies. In the fourth quarter of 2021, revenues decreased by 2% compared to the previous quarter. This is due to a 9% drop in smartphone revenue. However, this figure still is 33.5% higher than in the same period in 2020.

mediatek exceeds qualcomm

Smartphone revenues have fallen due to the higher than normal demand by Chinese OEMs in the first half of the year. Given supply delays, companies have accumulated chips in case of possible outages. According to forecasts, in the first quarter of 2022 MediaTek will increase its revenues between 4.7 and 5.1 billion dollars. This will be del 2-10% more compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.

Growth should be driven by the flagship processor Dimensity 9000 and the spread of 5G networks. Tech giants like Oppo, Xiaomi and vivo have already announced the use of this chipset in their smartphones. In the first quarter of 2022, MediaTek is expected to lead the chipset market for smartphones with a market share of 39%. It will then outperform Qualcomm, which is expected to perform at 29%. Analysts expect one revenue growth for the Taiwanese company for the whole of 2022 by 20%.
