Meizu accuses Xiaomi, Oppo and Smartisan of infringing mBack's patent

A few months ago Qualcomm sued Meizu for infringing a patent involving 3G and 4G technologies. The dispute was supposed to be resolved in China, but the Chinese company's attempt to put an end to the matter outside a court has failed. Qualcomm has in fact decided to bring a lawsuit also in France, Germany and the United States. Today, however, we receive news of a new dispute, this time opened by Meizu, which accused the rival companies Xiaomi, Oppo and Smartisan of having violated the patent of the mBack technology.

The name of the technology derives from the phrase “I'm Back” and refers to the special Home button that made it possible to eliminate the button on the back of smartphones. The technology allows you to perform four operations with a single button. The latter acts as a fingerprint sensor by activating the smartphone, allows you to unlock applications and return to the previous screen with a tap, as well as return to the homepahe if necessary. Finally, it allows you to lock the device with a long press.

In these days Meizu is accusing Smartisan of using the patented design, without prior consent, on the M1 and M1L models. The two models in question are equipped with a Home button which, in fact, has very similar functionality to those of mBack technology. The vice president of Meizu did not stop there, also accusing Xiaomi, Oppo and other competitors of having violated the same patent. At present, the accused companies have yet to provide an explanation, or at least respond to the allegations.
