Review Meizu EP51 bluetooth earphones

The Meizu EP51 are the first Bluetooth headset of the famous Chinese brand, I could not help but feel it. We start from the price that up GearBest is at $ 29,99 (about 26 €) because I was frankly afraid to find myself in front of the usual "cinesate" for sale in packages also on Amazon. But Meizu has not disappointed me, let's see why.

The packaging was the first "wow". Big, beautiful, well-kept and rich. It Contains:

  • The EP51 headset (of course)
  • Three additional pairs of rubber grommets in various sizes
  • Charging cable
  • Illustrated manual, both Chinese and English
  • Semi-rigid case for storing both the headset and the charging cable (special pocket)

The EP51 consists of 3 parts:

The earphones, made in aluminum of aeronautical manufacture, they unequivocally convey the feeling of a resistant and well-assembled product. They were also dealt with on trial waterproofing that protects them from perspiration but Meizu itself does not recommend using it in the rain. The earphones also incorporate some magnets to lock them together avoiding slipping away from the neck when not worn in the ears (comfortably!).

The controller is the command center of this wearable and we find the classic + and - controls (volume and skip) and a button for play / pause and other functions protected by a rubberized surface. There is also a bicolor led with which to verify some events charge / discharge, switch on / off, bluetooth pairing. A microphone for use during phone calls. The charging connection, well protected by a rubber flap. Finally, inside we find the 60mAh battery which guarantees listening for 6 hours.

The cable, red and rubberized, it is of the right thickness to guarantee lightness and resistance at the same time. From personal experience I think the classic cable is a more comfortable and efficient solution than the rigid bow that you can find on similar products

My experience, done with one Xiaomi Mi5, has been positive in all respects. I'm not an audiophile but I can confirm thegreat audio quality which returns great bass, obviously not comparable to devices of much greater quality. EP51 behaved well even in phone calls, without lag and with a good quality of listening also from the other interlocutor. In the tests carried out, the bluetooth connection (4.0) allowed me to use a remote hands of almost 10 meters

The battery really surprised me because it has abundantly exceeded the 6 hours promised by the technical specifications (usually it is the opposite) reaching about 8 hours of use interspersed with as many of standby. The charging takes place in a couple of hours using the cable supplied.

The overall weight of only 15 grams makes them very comfortable to wear. Once you have found the right earphone size (there are 4), the EP51 guarantees a light and fairly stable "fit" even in moderate physical activity.

I find the wearability of these earphones really bad: the body is badly designed and does not allow you to fully insert the tips, which are also bad because they are too short. Without thinking about the fact that the huge nozzle does not allow you to replace the tips with common 5 mm ones.

Bad purchase from China. It is the only one that has gone wrong, thankfully, so far.

Does anyone know of substitute tips that can get to close the ear canal well, as expected from an in ear?

I don't know, I also made a friend of mine try them and he gave me the same response: islander poco, to hear the bass you have to push them with your hands inside, a clear symptom that they do not go well to block the acoustic meatus, and give the sensation of falling at any moment. Instead, for example, I find the new Xiaomi Youth very good that you can get for less than € 14 at Banggood. Both in terms of audio and especially on the wearability side. After all, if an in-ear creates a bit of vacuum with the tips, it stays up especially for that, even without bows... Read the rest »
