Meizu MX4, the review of Smartylife.net

Design, materials and ergonomics

When I first handled this terminal I immediately got the feeling of having a premium device in her hands. The shiny cut edges, the terrific display and the feeling of touch given to me by her materials have confirmed what I had long been thinking but unfortunately I had never been able to ascertain: Meizu wants to become big, and with that MX4 we are getting bigger.

Here's how this smartphone is presented. On the top, there is the power button, noise reduction microphone, and earphone jack input. On the underside there is the micro-USB input for charging, the main microphone and the system speaker.

The right side is completely empty while the volume bar is located on the left side.

At the back we find the logo "Meizu"While at the top, in a central position, the camera is fine Sony da 20.7 megapixel equipped with dual flash two-color LED flash.

On the front, however, we find the beautiful display of unusual dimensions 5.36 inches, the headset cap, the front camera and the brightness and proximity sensors up, and the soft soft touch button at the bottom that also acts as a navigation key "back"When it is done on it swipe upward.

As mentioned before, the materials used in the construction of this phone absolutely give a feeling of quality: the back cover is made of polycarbonate while the side profiles are made of a particular magnesium alloy which is able to guarantee considerable strength and a good grip in the hand. . The dimensions of theMX4 I'm from 144.0 x 75.2 x 8.9 mm, while the weight, which appears to be well distributed, is 147 grams, non removable battery included.

Hardware

As you anticipate in the introduction the Meizu MX4 is a "monster" in terms of power. Here is a summary of its technical features:

  • Display from 36 inches in resolution Full-HD + (1920 x 1152) with pixel density 418 ppi;
  • SoC MediaTek MT6595 (modified by Meizu), a CPU octa-core a 32-bit made with technology Little and operating at the maximum frequency of 2.0 GHz;
  • 2 GB of RAM dual-channel LPDDR3 e 16/32 GB of internal memory;
  • Back Camera from 7 megapixel and front by 2 megapixel;
  • Battery from 3100 mAh.

I've been stressed out for this smartphone by also performing benchmark tests and gaming sessions with more than satisfactory results. On the other hand, these tests have also highlighted some defects, or rather some aspects that could be improved with future updates. Let's proceed with order. I suggest you some screenshots directly from the test made on Antutu: I'MX4 has totaled a total of 49247 points even standing in front of ... himself! The title of "King of Antuto"Is fully deserved!

It was just as good in the gaming session as it "spins" at best Real Racing 3, a game that we know is very expensive in terms of hardware resources. And here we come to the first defect of this terminal: the processor will heat up a lot! During the game session, as well as in internet browsing through 3G o 4G, the top of the phone has reached really high temperatures, leading me on some occasions even to remove my hand for the discomfort felt. In short, a little problem not of poco I realize that it can certainly be solved with a future update aimed at optimizing the use of the processor.

For the rest nothing to say about hardware, the Meizu MX4 is definitely promoted in this regard.

Two words on the display produced by Sharp/JDI and protected by glass Gorilla Glass 3 which unfortunately holds the fingerprints exaggerated. As you anticipate before is a panel of unusual dimensions of 5.36 inches with resolution of 1920 x 1152 pixel, resolution dubbed by Meizu as "Full-HD +". The quality of the display is really great: the maximum brightness is impressive, as are the fidelity and brilliance of the colors. Visibility is also very good even under direct sunlight, even though the brightness sensor works a bit. I have noticed the colors under tone when the brightness is set to the minimum, it almost seems that the backlight is missing.

I conclude this paragraph by talking about the battery that, let's say, is not really managed at best. Indeed, initially the autonomy was really poor, but after some recharge cycles it has improved considerably. The terminal has managed to reach the 10 operating hours with poco more than 4 hours on screen turned on. These results were obtained with the "balanced" mode, obviously the autonomy will be slightly worse or better depending on whether you choose the "high performance" or "energy saving"Respectively.

Audio and video

In addition to the camera, audio is one of the strengths of this smartphone. The system one, set to the maximum results to be really high, without losing in quality. Also excellent in capsule and in earphones.

With regard to video, I can tell you that the rear camera is able to record movies at the maximum resolution of 4k and even in slow-motion a 120 fps. I assure you that you could enjoy a lot from this point of view.

Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS and network connectivity

As far as connectivity is concerned Wi-Fi I did not find any problem even if I compared the reception with one Huawei Ascend P7 I noticed that the latter has been able to find many more networks: maybe the reception of the Wifi antenna of 'MX4 is not really the best.

Bluetooth 4.0 working fine, as well as the GPS which, after a slight delay in the engagement of cold satellites, proved to be very accurate and reliable.

Finally, as far as network connectivity is concerned, I can tell you that the power of the signal is really great. I remember you Meizu MX4 it's a single-SIM device with connectivity LTE, and where present, I did not encounter any problems with the connection 4G di TIM.

Camera

Nothing in particular on the front camera that, as you anticipate before is a drive from 2 megapixel. Noteworthy is the rear camera equipped with the sensor Sony IMX220 Exmor RS, sensor from resolution of 20.7 megapixel which allows you to capture photos of exceptional quality ... of course to those who are able to make the most of their potential. Of course this is not my case, but here are a series of photos made with this terminal.P50619-092841 P50619-093138 P50610-132651 P50622-191443

Software

Aboard Meizu MX4 we find the operating system Android with the now famous proprietary personalization FlyMe. Like other customizations like MIUI o EMUI also this FlyMe it has proved to be a very complete personalization. There are many features for managing and securing the device such as customizing profiles energy saving and as a dedicated search app virus from below management of permits.

S50622-191935

Despite this, the FlyMe still has a long way to go to reach its competitors' level: it's a still grim ROM, especially in our language translations.

Finally I find that Meizu with this OS it has distorted what is the open source nature of Android, imposing some limitations on both light modding experience, such as ROOT permissions, and as far as the most extreme modding as unlocking bootloader and change of ROM.

Here are a series of screenshots that will give you a graphic tasting of Flyme.

Conclusions

I have to admit that I started testing this terminal with great enthusiasm, enthusiasm that has been slowly waning after some time of use. Some defects found as excessive overheating or initial short battery life have led me to think that the Meizu MX4 it was not a phone to recommend. Fortunately I had to regain myself: this terminal has offered me a very good experience of use and she soon learned to conquer me. So absolutely recommended!
