Mi Band 2 Does Not Work on Dark Skins

The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is available since June last year revealing itself one of the best fitness bands which includes automatic heart rate sensors. To date however, a problem seems to emerge, in fact seems to be present Difficulty reading the heart rate of people with a dark skin complexion compared to someone who has a brighter skin color.

This problem seems to be which emerged in October last year, just two months after launching the device. In a thread entitled "Miband 2 heart rate sensor not working in dark skin people" , appeared on the official forum, several people report that the device is not able to measure the heart rate of those with dark skin, but when the same is moved on parts of the body as clear as the palms of the hands then the measurement takes place in regular way.

Here are some of the forum reports:

  • I bought the Mi Band 2 but it seems that heart rate measurement does not work on blacks.
  • We did some tests with the same bracelet on different people. Heart rate measurement works well on whites and failed every time on those who have dark skin.
  • I bought the Mi Band 2 for a week and the heart rate measurement still doesn't work on me. I tried to use another Mi Band 2, the result is the same that it works well on those with light skin, while it does not work well on me who have dark skin.
  • Are you aware of this technical problem? It's embarrassing because I bought the band for the heart rate detection feature.

Surely it might be a problem generated by the sensor mounted on the band and to corroborate these reports, the Xiaomi company did not stop complaining that the device did not seem to work very well with dark skin but responded that it is working on the problem for solve it.

In fact even on the net doing some research there are photos or reviews of people with dark skin. I know what you are thinking: Xiaomi is racist? But no, this is not the first time we see something like this: when Microsoft's Kinect debuted in 2010, it had the same problems as it could not detect people with dark complexion.

And what do you think? Have you had any problems with heart rate detection? But most of all, I turn to you friends who have dark complexion, are you happy Xiaomi Mi bands 2 or did you find the same problem? Let us know your in the comments box below.
