Exactly one year ago I learned about a new (at least for me) brand specialized in the production of floor-cleaning robots. The first product I tested was the Narwal Freo and after a few months its upgrade, the Narwal Freo Z Ultra. The latter was a good step forward, with the addition of a dust bag in the base and an updated navigation system with a dual FHD camera and dual AI chip. But to be honest, I wouldn't have upgraded to the Z if I had already purchased the X, the improvements weren't worth the money. Of course, if I had to buy a new one, I would definitely go for the Z Ultra. Today, the new flagship robot arrived, the Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra and I was very curious to see if those little flaws found in the Z had been “filet out”. Let’s go and see everything in detail together.

TECHNICAL FEATURES ROBOT Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra

From an aesthetic point of view, this Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra is practically identical to the Z Ultra, which I have to say I really liked, so I really like this one too. The color of this Z Ultra, a really beautiful dark gray, is always captivating. It has maintained its distinctive feature that had excited me, namely the upper cover formed by a single block and magnetically attached. It takes a full second to remove it and the same to put it back. A detail that has always been feared for robots is the increase in height that would prevent it from passing under raised furniture/sofas/beds. Luckily, this measurement has remained unchanged since its launch. 109 mm while the width and length have been slightly increased respectively 355x350mmThe weight of the robot also remains unchanged at 4.5kg

Let's now look at its technical features. If the Z Ultra already reached an incredible suction pressure of 12.000Pa, this new Z10 Ultra increases by a good 1/3, even reaching 18.000Pa. For those less knowledgeable about the subject, this value indicates how strong the robot's suction pressure is, which allows it to suck up dust. It goes without saying that the higher this value is, the greater its ability to suck up every single grain of dust found on the floor. To give you an idea of how great this power is, I'll point out that the best classic manual floor cleaners reach it. Until recently, robots that reached 7/8.000Pa were considered very high-performance
If this value is fundamental for dust extraction, we have another very important one to help us understand how much the mops will be "crushed" on the ground and will consequently be able to wash even the most persistent stains, which are usually the oldest. Our Narwhal Freo z10 ultra arrives at 8N an average value double that of competitors. In combination we find a rotation frequency of the mops that reaches 180 rpm, even in this case the value remains unchanged compared to its predecessor.
Another novelty is the side brushes. The side brushing system uses an innovative design: brushes dynamics with a movable arm. This arm opens and closes, optimizing the removal of tangled hair. The convergence of the arms towards the main brush, followed by their extension to reach the most distant corners, ensures complete and thorough cleaning.
La main brush subtraction Anti-tangle floating. Its unique floating conical brush design generates faster airflow at the tip. With over 4.000 rotations per minute, the air flows hair into the dust container, ensuring a tangle-free experience.

present 2 Full HD cameras which we find on the front of the robot, accompanied by a LED light which will allow the cams to work even in critical lighting situations. Freo Z10 Ultra takes intelligent cleaning to the next level. Its autonomous system NarMind™ Pro, the result of a dual AI processor architecture, dual vision sensors and proprietary AI algorithms, offers deep and precise cleaning, avoiding obstacles with unprecedented precision. We will delve into this topic in the navigation section.
The vocal feedback that will accompany us in the various cleaning operations is present, also in Italian.

MOCI
Here we find a great and very important novelty compared to the previous Freo models, namely finally the extendable mop! Freo Z10 Ultra in fact it is equipped with an extendable cloth that extends beyond its right side, ensuring thorough cleaning even in the most difficult to reach corners and adjacent to skirting boards. This mechanism saves on washing time as it will no longer be necessary to use the “waggling” movement to get as close as possible to the perimeter walls. This system, integrated with adaptive technology DeepClean, apply a constant pressure of 8N on the cloth.
The high-speed rotation of the cloth, combined with an adjustable cleaning angle, ensures the
effective removal of stubborn stains, even in those usually neglected areas.

The mops will be sprayed with clean water and washed from the base at regular intervals (set by us), every 8-10-12m²-room, so that you always wash with clean mops. The water temperature can vary from Inline a Inline based on the dirtiness of the mops and in a completely automatic way. It will in fact be the basis, thanks to the technology DirtSense Auto Wash, to assess how dirty the mops are and wash/wash yourself with water at the correct temperature. At the end of the washing session, before drying with hot air at Inline, the mops will be washed with water sterilized a Inline to inhibit bacterial proliferation.
Always present automatic recognition of carpets and lifting of mops up to 12 mm to avoid wetting them and will increase the suction power to obtain optimal cleaning. There are 4 carpet suction modes and each one will be automatically selected based on the shape of the carpet.
DUST COLLECTION
With regard to the dust collection of the Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra remains identical to that of the Z Ultra. Inside the robot we find a container, which in turn contains another removable and very easy to clean plastic container, 300ml. When it is full, if we do not empty it, it will be emptied automatically from the base and the dust will end up in a bag 2.5L. Here, but also in the robot, at the end of each cleaning session it will be sterilized by hot air Inline which will kill bacteria and will not allow mold to grow. The photos below are of the Z Ultra but are also valid for the Z10 Ultra which is the same.

Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra NAVIGATION SYSTEM
The navigation system of the Narwhal Freo z10 ultra it has changed and of course improved further. TwinAI Dodge presupposes, in addition to the well-tested system LiDAR 4.0 the addition of well 2 HD front cameras (1600×1200) RGB with very wide viewing angle up to InlineThe footage from these cameras is processed by the AI dual chip and all this translates into a millimetric mapping of the environment to be cleaned and the recognition of every minimal obstacle present on the floor, even the smallest ones up to 5 mm. In this way, with this precision, our Z10 Ultra will be able to avoid them all and at the same time pass just a few millimetres from the obstacle, therefore cleaning more floor. The visual perception system NarMind PRO enable the recognition of up to 200 people, animals and objects in real time and dynamically adjusts its obstacle avoidance strategies to ensure complete floor coverage without unwanted collisions, up to a distance of one millimetre.
- For furniture legs and narrow edges, the Freo Z10 Ultra maintains a distance of 8mm.
- For common obstacles such as shoes or charging cables, the Freo Z10 Ultra maintains a distance of 20mm.
- For moving objects such as pets and people, the Freo Z10 Ultra creates a dynamic safety zone with a minimum distance of 40mm.
- In very dirty areas, where dirt risks being dragged and causing damage, Freo Z10 Ultra maintains a safety distance of 70mm to avoid problems.

There is a powerful LED light near the cameras, this will allow it to have an optimal vision even in low light situations. In fact, if the LidDAR laser system does not require ambient lighting, the cameras obviously do. So the advice is to always use it with good lighting to obtain perfect results. During washing, the obstacles will be photographed and you will be able to see them on the house map, which is not very useful but certainly “cool”.
It is also possible to enable the video cameras during washing and then see how the robot is doing! I'll tell you the truth, I use them when I'm not at home to see if everything is ok!

Narwal Freo Z Ultra CHARGING AND WASHING BASE
The charging and mop washing base contains the 2 clean water tanks and the dirty water, the dust bag, the detergent compartment and a touch display for direct access to some functions and the mop washing system. The water tanks are good 5L that of'clean water e 4.5L that of theDirty water. But how does it work? Very simple, you just need to fill the clean water tank with water and detergent (or directly insert the Narwal detergent container supplied into the base, but we will see this later). At this point, when a cleaning session is launched that includes washing, the robot will go to the station and its mops washed with water and detergent. Through the application (which we will see later) we have the possibility of setting every how many cleaned m² the robot will have to return to the station to wash the mops (8-10-12m²). We can also set the return to the station at the end of cleaning each room. In this way the Narwal will be able to wash the floor with always clean mops and this is a fundamental thing to obtain optimal cleaning. Naturally after each washing of the mops, the station will clean the bulk of the dirt left on the washing base (removable) and suck up all the dirty water in the dedicated tank. At the end of the cleaning session, the robot will return to the base for the last cleaning of the mops and related drying. This too can be managed through application in the ways and times we prefer. Worth noting is the incredible noise of the drying operation even in the “powerful” mode

The front of the base is magnetically attached (I love this solution) and therefore we can put it on and take it off in an instant, inside we find on the left the dust collection bag and on the right the detergent bottle housing. This is a clear improvement over its predecessor which did NOT have an automatic dust collection bag and had the detergent housing in a decidedly uncomfortable position.

The suction and washing system, Proactive AI DirtSense™ 2.0 combined with double AI CHIP, allows the robot to quickly and in real time recognize the difference between dry dirt and wet stains, applying the most suitable cleaning strategy, increasing or decreasing the suction power and pressure of the mops, so whether it's vacuuming dust or washing stains. When it detects heavy dirt, it can perform targeted and intense cleaning, focusing only on the affected area until the dirt is completely removed. This intelligent dirt detection function prevents
the spread of bacteria and bad odors in the home.
As for the tray and the cleaning base, which together form the washing base, my advice is to remove them and wash them manually at least every 4/5 washing sessions. As mentioned above, they will be automatically cleaned from the bulk of dirt but obviously some residue will remain and if you are a cleanliness maniac, it would be useful to proceed with a manual and thorough washing.

We will even have the possibility of loading clean water and draining dirty water automatically (with an additional kit). To do this, obviously, we will have to place the base in a place where we will have access to a drain and a water loading tap. Then you will have to connect the dedicated KIT, sold separately, and in this way the base will also automatically manage this operation. It is obviously not easy to have the house set up for this function, usually these "connections" are in the bathroom but are normally used by the washing machine. In any case, if you have the possibility, the base connections are located on the back. You will just have to remove the plastic plate that covers them.

In the upper part of the station we have a comfortable Touch LCD display circular that will allow us to execute some commands directly from the station. To enable it, just touch it and the available commands are the following:
- Top icon: enable/disable FREO MIND
- Icon on the right: washing/drying mops
- Bottom icon: start/stop cleaning
- Icon on the left: call/exit to/from the station
- Central icon: child lock

As already mentioned, as far as the detergent is concerned, we will have the convenient possibility of directly inserting the container into the washing base in the appropriate frontal slot. In this way, the right amount of detergent will be automatically released without the annoying manual dosing operation (which is almost always wrong). It goes without saying that this feature is also an exclusive Narwal that you will not find in other devices.

APPLICATION Narwal Freo Z Ultra
Probably when you have purchased the robot in the application it will be detected automatically by selecting it from the list of products. At the time I am writing this review in the Narwal application the Z10 Ultra is NOT yet present so I had to install it by scanning the qrcode on the robot, to frame it you will simply have to remove the magnetic cover.
Even with the Z10 Ultra, as with the other models, I had problems getting it to communicate with the base at the first start. I solved it by manually placing it inside the base.

But let's start from the beginning, install the NARWAL application present in the store of your smartphone, register, enable BT and location and you will find yourself in the device selection. As I was saying, in my case the Z10 Ultra is not present and I had to proceed with the QRCode, in yours you will surely find the Z10 Ultra in the list, click on it, enter the wifi network to connect it to, accept and you will find yourself in the mapping section.

HOUSE MAPPING
As a first start, the robot will do a complete mapping of your home, it will take 5/10 minutes depending on the size. You just need to click on “mapping started” to give the ok to this preliminary procedure.
Mapping your home is a fundamental operation. In the end, you can still modify it by changing the names of the rooms, dividing environments, merging them, manually changing the type of flooring, adding furniture, carpets, areas prohibited only for washing, etc. In short, total customization!

DEVICE HOME
Once the mapping is finished, we enter the heart of the application, from the home page we click "Enter the device home page" and we will find all the most important work menus including the link to the settings. At the bottom we find the cleaning modes which are 4: sucks and washes (single pass), vacuum and then wash, aspirate, washed. By clicking on each one we will enter the settings for each individual cleaning method (we will see this later).

Just above we find 2 links, room e areas which will be used to clean rooms or just some areas of the house (we can add as many areas as we want and of the size we want). By default we will be on the "rooms" cleaning; to enter the "zones" view, just click on "zones" and vice versa

On the top right side of the map we find 4 links to: menu map, robot video camera, historical photo and charging station. In the maps menu we can add new ones and modify the saved ones, in the video camera menu we can manage the robot manually with the cameras turned on and therefore take videos or photos while I will talk about the base station menu below. To unlock the video camera menu you will have to follow the instructions and set a password.

CHARGING STATION
From the maps screen we can access the base's "management" menu by clicking on the fourth link, the one with the base icon. Here we can manually manage:
- Check the accessories situation
- Manual dust collection from the robot
- Drying and disinfecting the dust bag
- mop wash
- mop drying

Washing mode
There are 4 washing modes:
- Vacuum and wash: single pass to vacuum the dust and wash the floor
- Vacuum and then wash: first pass to vacuum the dust, second pass to wash
- Aspire: dust extraction only
- Lava: wash only
- Customization: to manually customize, room by room, the cleaning mode
Which mode to choose? Well, if you only need to vacuum the dust or just wash the choice is easy, aspirate or washed. If your floor needs a complete cleaning, dust suction and washing, then the mode to choose depends on the time you want to spend on the operation (or rather, the time you want the robot to spend on it). If you are not in a hurry, the best is “vacuum and then wash“; in this mode, if you have time to let the robot work, it will first vacuum the dust and then wash the floor. If instead you need to optimize the times “sucks and washes” will be right for you, in fact in a single pass the robot will vacuum and wash the floor.
These modes, if not changed with the custom mode, will be used for all rooms. If instead you want to exclude some rooms for example from washing you will have to use the custom mode. By clicking on "Customization” you can decide room by room how to clean, in fact as soon as you click on it the rooms will be selected and on each room a series of icons will appear that will allow us to decide how to clean. Clicking on customization will show you what you have enabled in the various rooms, clicking on the 2 dots will enter the specific menu that will allow you to manually set the washing for each room.
The default mode of how rooms will be cleaned is FREO MODE, that is, the robot thanks to its AI will decide the best cleaning mode based on the dirt detected. Then it will adjust the suction power, the amount of water to release and how many passes to make. Obviously this mode is the recommended one, in fact you will not have to worry about anything. However, there is the possibility of customizing everything by disabling the FREO MODE. By disabling it we can manually set how many passes to make, the suction power, the water release and the precision level.

SELECTION OF ROOMS
If you do not select them individually, the robot will wash all the rooms. For convenience (to move objects that get in the way from one to another) I wash them one at a time. To do this, simply click on the room(s) you want to wash. Remember that the washing order will be the one you selected. You can also change it by clicking on the “Z” icon at the bottom right.

Cleaning options
If you want to go manual you can change the following parameters:
- Suction and washing cycle – These are the sessions of passage of the robot on each area of the floor, you can set: X1, X2, X3. If you select X2 or X3 in the second and third pass, the washing pattern will also be changed (the application will visually explain how)
- Suction power – The power with which the robot will vacuum the dust can be set: silent, normal, strong, super powerful with obviously increasing power.
- Mop washing humidity – how much water will be released on the mops, 3 ever-increasing levels can be set.
- Accuracy level – how the robot will clean the floor, you can select: standard (for daily cleaning) or meticulous (for very dirty floors).

If we do not use the “ modeCustomization“, as already mentioned, all rooms will be cleaned with the same set mode. Regarding the “FREO MODE” there is also the possibility to customize this intelligent mode. In the screen where the FREO MODE is highlighted, click on “set” and you will find yourself in the configuration screen of the same. Here we will have the possibility to modify the cleaning parameters or leave them on “intelligent” so that the robot manages them by itself, by clicking on “tax“. Well, this possibility of varying the parameters in an “automatic” mode honestly doesn’t convince me… in fact my advice is to leave them all on “intelligent”. FREO MIND it can also be activated directly from the washing station display.

Exclusion zones
We also have the option to exclude individual areas or set a washing mode only for those. To access this function you will have to click on the maps icon, then on "edit map", on "prohibited area" and finally on "+". At this point a red square will appear that you can resize and move as you like, precisely to exclude certain areas from cleaning. The exclusion can be done for suction and washing, only suction or only washing. Once you have decided on the area, click on the green check and save by clicking save at the top right.

I remind you that our robot still has a automatic recognition of the carpets and if not excluded they will be cleaned by suction only, the mops will lift automatically to avoid wetting and ruining them.
CLEANING OF AREAS
If you only need to clean one area of your home, no problem. On the map screen, click on “areas” (by default it will be set to “rooms”). At this point all the rooms in the house will appear. A square that will be the first area to draw and a “+” button at the bottom right. If you need to clean just one area you can size it with the default square (to confirm it click on the green “V”). If you need to add more, click on the “+” and another square will appear that will be the new area to clean. Obviously you can also resize and move this as you like. You can add as many as you want.

PROGRAM
From the map screen we find the link “program” at the bottom left. This menu will be used to schedule daily/weekly cleaning.

The program can be completely customized (which and how to clean the rooms) or you can use shortcuts.
SHORTCUTS
In the robot's Home we find the "shortcuts" link. These are customized cleaning programs. From here you can create a cleaning routine based on which room to clean first, which after, which to exclude and in each one what type of washing to use.

GENERAL SETTINGS
From the maps page, by clicking on the hexagonal icon at the top right we will enter the general settings menu. Here we will find very important settings to apply to obtain perfect cleaning based on our needs. As for the firmware, you will be notified of new versions released. To install them, the robot must have a minimum recommended charge of 40%.

Clicking on Device you will enter the general settings of the robot. Here you can set the time zone, area measurement units, share the possibility of use to other family members, locate the robot (via voice feedback), restart it, reset the network, disconnect it.

Freo All: by clicking on the menu FREO MIND you can customize this mode. My advice is to leave everything as it is set by default

Clear: in the menu “clean up” we will be able to configure the mop washing strategy (every 8-10-12 square meters or at the end of each room. We will also be able to choose whether the mop washing mode edge cleaning will be done by extending the mop or with the "shaking" movement. Here we can also give a room cleaning sequence to be set as default.

General: let's move on to the menu now "Consulting” where we can set other very important settings:
- Ladderless mode: enable it if you don't have ladders, this way obstacles will be overcome more precisely
- Do Not Disturb: If enabled will turn off voice feedback and base station indicators. It will intelligently regulate those noisier functions at night
- High Altitude Mode: Enable it if you live in areas above 2000m
- Child lock: enable it if you don't want to risk that your children cannot interact with the robot
- Automatic shutdown: essential menu, if enabled it will turn off the robot if it is out of the base and therefore disconnected from the power supply. So I absolutely recommend that you keep it enabled to avoid the risk of finding the robot out of power when you need to use it. In the X Ultra this menu was not there and more than once I found the robot completely out of power.

Base station: another very important menu is that of the base station where we can set:
- Automatically add detergent: you will have the possibility to directly insert the Narval detergent container into the washing base and by enabling this option, detergent will be added automatically.
- Automatic bacteria control: enable it to inhibit any bacteria/mites present in the dust bag/container via hot air at the end of cleaning
- Bag status: Here you can see when it is time to replace the dust bag
- Mop drying intensity: silent, powerful, intelligent according to our needs. My advice is always the intelligent mode and do not keep the base station in the bedroom.
- Default cleaning mode: vacuum and mop, vacuum and then mop, vacuum, mop. On the base we have an LCD display with 4 controls. Among these we have the one to start the robot, and the robot will start in the mode that we have set here.
- Temperature-controlled cleaning system: When turned on, the water will be heated to an appropriate temperature based on the Dirty Sense results and the type of dirt to better wash the mops
- Automatic dust collection: Choose the option to collect dust from the robot's bin
- Dust collection mode: choose the mode according to your needs

Family with pets: here we can set the robot to manage a house with pets, it will follow a series of "attentions" typical of an environment with pets.

Map: then we have the “maps” menu where we could add new ones or remap the current one

Manage accessories: we then find the menu dedicated to consumables and their status, manage accessories. Here you can check their status and know when it is time to replace or clean them.

Language and voice: in the menu language and voice You can set the volume of the robot's vocal feedback and set the language in which it will respond to you, including Italian.

AI Obstacle Avoidance: here you can set how the robot will avoid obstacles and whether to enable photo capture of detected obstacles so that you can then see them on the map.

Let's finish with the menu third party control which will allow you to add our Narval ad Alexa and manage it with voice commands.

HOW DOES Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra CLEAN
But let's get to the fundamental point, how does our floor clean? Narwhal Freo z10 ultra. Let's start from the suction because this further improvement on the suction pressure brought up to 18 Kpa, a value almost equal to manual floor cleaners that notoriously have increasingly superior cleaning performances, leads us to have a real vacuum cleaner that will not leave the slightest speck of dust on the floor. The “zero tangle 2.0” collection brush is always excellent and combined with the revolutionary “mobile” side brushes will allow the robot to never get tangled, even if your floor is invaded by animal hair and hair. The washing of the areas adjacent to the skirting boards is also very good as we finally find the extendable right mop and therefore the “waggling” movement will no longer be necessary to clean this part of the floor, a movement that is still high-performance but obviously slow. The possibility of activating it via an application will still remain. Very interesting is the fact that this movement, smart edge swing, will activate automatically in combination with the mop extension where there are furniture with small grooves to allow the mop to reach even deeper!
The pressure of the mops has gone from the 12N of the previous ultra models to the 8N of this Z10 (precisely for the safety of the extendable mop, too high a pressure would put the extendable arm at risk). However, the floor washing remains excellent and there is no noticeable difference from the previous models that had a pressure a third higher, always considering that a Robot will never be able to wash encrusted stains as one could do manually with the classic wet rag.
Narvwal's proprietary technologies such as the Visual Perception System NarMind™ Pro based on dual processor architecture, dual vision sensors FULL HD RGB and artificial intelligence algorithms, offers always precise navigation and truly amazing obstacle avoidance. Combined with the technology DeepClean e Free Mind Mode 3.0 our Z10 Ultra will recognize every situation found on the floor, dust, solid objects, light stains, "heavy" stains, carpets and based on the recognized scenario it will use the best way to clean it. It will insist on the dirtiest areas, it will do it less in lightly dirty areas, it will lift the mops when it goes on a carpet and increase the suction pressure to clean it better. In short, with the automatic modes, which are the ones I always recommend (in our case the Free Mind Mode 3.0) you won't have to worry at all about how to set up the Robot because I'll do everything myself.
But what struck me most was the washing speed and the perfect strategy that the robot uses to perform an accurate and at the same time rapid cleaning. In fact, in FREO MIND mode, it will start cleaning the perimeter of the room and then do the central part in the most linear way possible. And this allows it to save if not half, but a good 30% compared to previous models branded Narwal.
The washing of the mops inside the base is also perfect thanks to the technology DirtSense Auto Wash. In fact, it will be the base that decides the correct temperature of the water for washing based on how much dirt is detected on them, hot water that will go from Inline a Inline. Final cleaning with sterilized water a Inline and air drying at Inline will kill 99.99% of bacteria. The dust bag will need to be replaced (or emptied) approximately every 120 days, don't worry because the dust bag and the dust container of the robot will also be sterilized at the end of each work session with hot air. The base tray where the robot is housed for cleaning and charging will obviously also be cleaned. My advice is to remove it and clean it manually once every 2 months.
Last positive aspect, among many, is the noisiness really limited. It stands around 55-60dB that compared to 70dB average of the competition is a big difference. You can therefore use it even in the evening while comfortably watching TV from the sofa, the noise disturbance will be minimal.
Finally, let's talk about aesthetics, which is always a personal and very subjective concept. I don't like the base very much, but very much. Beautiful, elegant, it almost entirely hides the robot and we remember its LCD Display integrated touch which will allow us to perform various operations.
FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
Il Narwhal Freo Z10 Ultra coastline 1299€ of the list price, so we have gone up a bit compared to the previous models. It must be said that there are improvements, the washing appears faster and compared to the prices of competitors we are still a few hundred euros less, considering that the average price of a robot like the Z10 Ultra is around €1500. Therefore, like any product, the quality-price ratio becomes a fundamental parameter and the Z10 Ultra is certainly among the best and probably the best on the market.
We must then consider that we will find an excellent “early bird” offer that from 21 April will allow you to save a lot 200€ and have a FREE accessory kit.
However, I don't feel like recommending you upgrade from the Z Ultra or X Ultra to this Z10 Ultra, but if you are looking for your first top-of-the-range floor-washing robot vacuum cleaner then don't miss out on this product because I assure you that you won't regret it!
