We have seen several folding smatrphones in the last period. We have seen real ones, like Xiaomi Mi Flex, and not, as the latest patents presented by the brand. It is not yet clear whether the market will move towards this sector as prices are currently excessively high. Another reason that holds us back from saying that this type of smartphone will be very successful is the fragility: the experience of many users has shown that there are many in competitive devices resistance issues the screen. Anyhow Xiaomi wants to try and patent a new design for his folding smartphone.
A new design has been proposed by Xiaomi for its folding smartphone: Xiaomi Mi Flex should be its name ... but when will it arrive?
Judging from the images it seems that this new patent takes up in a very uncanny way what is the Huawei Mate XS. The Xiaomi smartphone, for which the patent was filed at the end of 2019 and published today, is foldable on one side only contrary to the prototypa long time ago we saw in the hands of Lin Bin. The images clearly show how this folds outward.
The wing that goes to close "fits" into a groove where all the cameras of the device are placed. Clearly it is a foldable we will not find any front sensor but only the rear ones that seem to be 4 on this device. The front of the Xiaomi leaflet is entirely borderless and therefore it is a real full screen and the screen on the back, what actually folds turns out to be closer of the part that does not move.
A button is placed under the cameras. This will serve to unlock / lock the mechanism that allows you to fold your smartphone: it is probably a snap system or something similar since at the right end of the photograph below we can see a small nozzle that fits into the groove.
Unlike the design of Mi Mix Alpha, this device it does not have a curved glass. We understand it two physical keys which are located right on the curve (image on the left). To bend is only the part corresponding to the center of the device, while the dorsal (if we want to call it that) it will be characterized by a plastic or aluminum alloy shell. As we said before, cameras are also placed on this back.
According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Xiaomi plans to release its first folding smartphone soon. Unfortunately, the CEO has not been unbalanced in saying when.
