OnePlus ends partnership with Hasselblad and launches a new, unreleased project: DetailMax Engine

For five years OnePlus and Hasselblad they worked side by side, combining engineering and chromatic sensitivity up to the foldable Find N5Today that collaboration ends, leaving room for a new path: the OnePlus DetailMax Engine, a proprietary imaging engine that promises sharper, more authentic photographs.

OnePlus DetailMax Engine: Introducing the Proprietary Imaging Engine

The relationship with Hasselblad was not a simple commercial agreement, but a shared laboratory in which every shade of color and every transition of light was the subject of discussion and refinement. This comparison left atechnical and cultural legacy that OnePlus now carries forward independently, with the aim of defining a visual language even closer to human perception.

But what does it actually mean to create an imaging engine from scratch? The answer lies in photography computational, a field that uses advanced algorithms and computing power to interpret huge amounts of data captured by the sensor.

It's not about adding artificial effects, but rather extract from that data an image that reflects the complexity of the real scene: more gradual shadows, more defined textures, less altered colors.

A key point emerged directly from users. According to research conducted by OnePlus, the most common gesture after taking a shot is zooming in to check the details. That's when a camera is judged. The DetailMax Engine was therefore created with a specific goal: to return images that can withstand close observation, with no loss of sharpness or obvious signs of handling.

The first internal tests seem to confirm this direction. Even if the project is in its initial phase, the Tested prototypes already show promising results, the result of algorithms capable of better managing visual depth and reducing digital artifacts.

The end with Hasselblad is therefore not a farewell, also because OPPO will continue for another two years, but the end of a training cycle that enriched OnePlus with tools and insights. Now the company has chosen to capitalize on that experience with a project that aims to redefine the concept of clarity in mobile photography.
