OnePlus and Oppo have merged months ago and since then everything has changed. A little for the users and a little for the company itself, the situation has become complicated. Today, however, we are talking about a particular category of users, namely the developers. According to what we read on the XDA Developers forums, the partnership between the two companies has led to many problems especially with regard to the development of custom OS that we also know as Custom ROM.
OnePlus, with the merger with Oppo, has decided to saw the legs of custom OS developers. Here are their feedback on it
It appears that the merger of OnePlus and Oppo will soon complicate the ability to create alternative firmware for smartphones. As noted by the XDA Developers users, the fault lies with the transition to a base of common code with Oppo's ColorOS: this can completely "kill" the possibility of releasing unofficial OS assemblies for the brand's devices.
OnePlus hasn't released kernel source updates for the OnePlus 9 Pro since August 2021, according to a developer. As a result, he had to abort the custom kernel creation process Omega due to the lack of support from the company. In the future, according to the same developer, the seller will be able to follow the path of Oppo, whose firmware is not very popular among modders due to similar technical difficulties.
Previously, OnePlus and Oppo have announced their readiness to develop one unified Android shell in 2022. It is not yet known whether we are talking about the passage of all devices of the alliance to ColorOS, or about a completely new brand of proprietary firmware.
