OpenAI unveils AI model that will dwarf GPT-4 (and won't be GPT-5)

OpenAI has just revealed that it is working on a new artificial intelligence model aimed at surpass the current GPT-4 and the recent GPT-4o. With this news, the company also announced the creation of a safety advisory commission, charged with advising on all critical decisions regarding the security of its projects.

OpenAI has announced that it is developing a new model of artificial intelligence, aimed at surpassing the capabilities of the current one used to power ChatGPT. This announcement not only underlines the company's ambition to progress towardsgeneral artificial intelligence (AGI), but also introduces a new consultative structure to ensure the safety of its projects.

The new security advisory commission will be led by Bret Taylor, with members including CEO Sam Altman, Adam D'Angelo and Nicole Seligman. This commission will have the task of review and improve OpenAI's processes and safeguards in the next 90 days. The final recommendations will be presented to the Board of Directors, followed by a public update on the measures taken.

The working group will also include OpenAI technical and policy experts such as Aleksander Madry, Lilian Weng, John Schulman, Matt Knight and Jakub Pachocki. Furthermore, external experts will be consulted to ensure that security solutions are cutting edge.

The stated goal for the new AI model is to further enhance the capabilities of chatbots and digital assistants. While specific details about the new model have not yet been disclosed, it is clear that OpenAI aims to set new standards in AI. This announcement arrives poco after the news of the existence of a alleged GPT-5 model. Presumed because, apparently, the next product on which ChatGPT will be based will not be called that at all.

For the moment there is no release date for the next model that will succeed GPT-4, but we are certain that the 2025 will be the year decisive. The beginning of the year will probably be the most propitious time.
