OPPO Reno8 Series: here is a preview of the innovative design of the series

Tomorrow, Wednesday 31 August, the OPPO Reno8 Series, or the new series of smartphones branded by the Chinese brand. Before the launch, the company unveiled the features of the innovative design of the devices that are part of the series. Let's go and discover them in detail.

OPPO Reno 8 Series: here is the new unibody design

Since the introduction of the Reno Series in 2019, OPPO, one of the world's leading companies in the smart device sector, has always sought to offer users a renewed experience in design and colors. In addition to this, the unique process OPPO Glow brought dream color combinations to the Reno series, generation after generation, leading to continuous improvement in processes and results.

This time around, the new Reno8 Series carries on the iconic features of the Reno Series, bringing with it an all-new streamlined unibody design and a premium color finish. To elevate the visual and physical experience of the series user Reno8, OPPO decided to experiment with an ergonomic design. Reno's designers decided to focus on a key concept: to create a "weightless" device centered around an aerodynamic unibody design.

In many smartphones, the use of glass back covers has resulted in the need to use a separate material to build the area that houses the camera module. However, this bi-material design is prone to accumulation of dust around the junction between the two materials, as well as presenting an abrupt transition that is uncomfortable for users who, during use, hold the device by placing their index finger on the body. rear.

OPPO's designers first tried to explore the interaction between the camera module and the surrounding rear shell, opting for another way of designing the camera module area, in order to strengthen the aerodynamic unibody. , improving itsergonomics , ease of use. Based on this approach, a monobloc and homogeneous design which makes the smartphone more comfortable to hold and cleaner, avoiding the accumulation of dust.

To create a smooth integration between the lens module and the rest of the glass cover, OPPO forges a single piece of Gorilla Glass using a hot forging process with a temperature that reaches 800 ℃ and a press of 120kg. This high temperature, which exceeds that typically used in other glass forging processes, is what allows a smooth and thin arc shape to be incorporated into the glass, keeping the transition point precise.

The glass itself is shaped using a mold. During the process of high temperature and high pressure production, any texture present on the surface of the mold is also transferred to the glass. Therefore, to ensure that the glass is smooth and without irregularities, the mold undergoes a three-step polishing process, before starting forging.

It is also possible that unwanted textures or areas of unevenness are accidentally introduced into the area of the camera module and the transition between the camera module and the rest of the rear casing. To eliminate them, eight other nano-scale polishing steps are performed directly on the glass. In addition, both the front and back are carefully polished with a high level of precision, until the back cover is ultra-fine and homogeneous.

In the case of Reno8 5G, featuring the iconic proprietary OPPO Glow design, the presence of irregularities in the material also affects the overall visual experience created by the brilliant rear shell layer. To work around this problem, changes need to be made to the manufacturing process to ensure that the smartphone features a perfect unibody design without compromising the sparkling look offered by OPPO Glow.

For this reason, OPPO engineers carried out repeated tests to find the optimum pressure level for the hot forging technique. During this process, the rear shell material is:

  • first heated to its melting point;
  • after which it enters a highly elastic state;
  • when the material is in this state, the integrated shell is forged with a pressure of approximately 32 kg, which is 50% higher than that applied in conventional hot forging processes.

"The idea is to make the camera module appear to float on water, as if the ripples on the surface have solidified as the smartphone is about to emerge from the body of water, but is still intrinsically connected to it," explained a Reno8 Pro designer.

Guided by this inspiration, the design team created a unique and never-before-seen design. Furthermore, the beauty of the Reno8 Series is further highlighted by a design that draws inspiration from the classic cinema cameras. The OPPO designers, in fact, have redesigned the two lenses of the main camera and the flashes, highlighting the powerful features of the photographic sector of Reno8 Series. The two flashes have been designed in a circular shape to create a Ring Flash design that can provide ample light when the camera is in use.

OPPO Reno8 is an ergonomic range

The size of a smartphone and the edges of the rear body greatly influence the user experience of users. Reno8 proin fact, it features a small bevel cut on the central frame that reduces the sensation of hardness and angularity, while maintaining a square appearance.

Visually, the ultra narrow edges of the screen 6,7 ″ Ultra-Clear 120Hz AMOLED help offset the overly wide aspect caused by the combination of a curved screen and a right-angled center bezel, creating a highly immersive viewing experience thanks to the 93,4% screen-to-body ratio. Additionally, a redesign of the smartphone's internal layout allowed engineers to reduce the thickness of the device to just 7,34mm, making the Reno8 Pro the thinnest smartphone in the Reno series.

The ergonomic design of the Reno8G guarantees an instinctive and natural grip with a thickness of about 7,67 mm and a weight of about 179 g. In addition to advances in terms of shapes, materials and layout, OPPO designers have once again brought innovation also in colors and finishes. Reno8 Pro, available in the two colors Glazed Green and Glazed Black, draws further inspiration from porcelain glazing techniques to add a further touch of elegance to the rear shell. In the Reno8 5G model, on the other hand, two new original colors have been introduced, Shimmer Gold and Shimmer Black, characterized by the iconic OPPO Glow process.
