Amazfit PAI can be used to take out life insurance

Owners of smartwatches from Huami, Or the Amazfit, will no doubt be aware of what is the PAI index. It is an indicator developed independently by the Chinese company (and therefore owned by it) through artificial intelligence that allows you to monitor your motor activities with efficiency and accuracy. A counter ranging from 1 to 100, tells us where we are with physical activity and will give us a score that evaluates our situation. But is it just a score? Apparently not, and it can be now also used for much more "important" purposes.

Research states that the PAI index, developed by Huami and integrated on Amazfit smartwatches, can be used as data to underwrite life insurance

According to a research white paper from insurance giant Gen Re (USA), it has been shown that Huami's PAI health assessment system can be used as support to take out a life insurance contract. In particular, the output of exercises and data on cardiopulmonary endurance would assess the user's risk of death with certified efficiency. Acronym for Personal activity intelligence, it is a new one health assessment system able to assess the impact of physical exercise on health. But let's take a closer look at what has allowed this technology to become so important.

According to search for Gen Re, there are several useful functions for this purpose:

  • first the comfort, achieved by the fact that this technology is now available for any user in possession of an Amazfit smartwatch
  • it has been revealed that there is one correlation between the mortality rate and low physical activity (measured precisely by this index)
  • the clue PAI can independently assess the risk of mortality without relying on other factors that can evaluate the same thing

The research program used the National Health and Nutrition Survey of the United States. A total of 208.840 people between 20 and 80 years old. It is understood that this research is demonstrated only for the US and not the world reality. Consequently it is not plausible that even in Europe and Italy an insurance institution accepts PAI data to take out an insurance policy. In fact it would be absurd: for ordinary users the rating system only indicates how much exercise is needed to improve or maintain a certain level of health.
