The Xiaomi Mi 9 presented the February 20 in China and then formalized the 24 February in Europe (Barcelona to be precise) is certainly one of the most interesting devices ever released by the Chinese brand. The smartphone, in addition to having top-of-the-range hardware, is in fact available at a fairly competitive price both in China and around the world.
The Mi 9 was presented in different variants ranging from 64GB to 128GB of internal memory, with RAM starting from 6GB and finally different colors are available: blue, purple and gray. As you already know, however, Xiaomi did not stop here and in Barcelona it also unveiled the Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition, or the version with a transparent glass back cover.
Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition: On sale from the end of March
The Explorer Edition, besides being a beautiful piece of Chinese engineering, also has more "performing" hardware than the basic version. For example, in addition to the 8GB of RAM, we find 256GB of internal memory (of the UFS 2.1 type) and in the future it will also be available in a variant with 12GB of RAM.
Well, almost a month after the official presentation, the Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition seems to be close to being put on sale. The product director of Xiaomi, Wang Teng, would indeed have confirmed on the Chinese social media Weibo that at least the 8GB / 256GB version will be available from the second half of March, so very soon. While as regards the cost, a price of 3599 Yuan is suspected, that is on the 475 €; an ultra-competitive price that we will hardly see in our continent (except by importing it).
So, in conclusion, if you were waiting for the version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the smartphone is just around the corner.
All other specifications on the Explorer version are identical to the basic one. We will therefore find a 6.39-inch diagonal Samsung AMOLED display with Full HD + resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) with a 19: 9 ratio, 600 nits brightness and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 panel, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor and a Qualcomm Adreno 640 GPU.
We will always have the fingerprint reader under the display, facial recognition and a physical button for the AI smart assistant (eg Google). While on the back we will find three cameras with a 586MP Sony IMX48 as the main one, a 12MP sensor for photos with 2x optical zoom and a 16MP camera with ultra-wide lens (FOV 117 °); instead we will have a 20MP sensor in front.
Other specifications include dual SIM LTE support, Wi-Fi ac Dual Band, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Infrared, USB Type-C, GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / BeiDou, Dual GPS L1 + L5, stereo speaker, a 3300mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4.0 and 20W Wireless Quick Charge; the operating system is Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 interface.
