Qualcomm has officially announced its new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset (SM4635), aimed at budget 5G smartphones. This SoC, fabricated on a 4nm process, is intended for devices launching in India in the coming months.

In terms of specifications, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 presents two Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2,0 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1,8 GHz. Compared to the predecessor Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, all eight cores were slightly underclocked by 200 MHz. The new chip's Adreno GPU is not specified, but it is designed to offer adequate performance for budget devices. Also, the chipset supports 4 MHz LPDDR2.133x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage memories.
La maximum display resolution supported by the 4s Gen 2 chip is FHD+ with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. As for the camera, the chipset it can handle main sensors up to 84 MP and selfie sensors up to 32 MP with Zero Shutter Lag. Video recording is limited to 1080p at 60 fps with EIS stabilization.
The 5G modem built into the 4s Gen 2 delivers download speeds up to 1 Gbps. Furthermore, the chipset supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 local connectivity with aptX. The USB port is type 3.2 Gen 1, and fast charging is guaranteed thanks to Quick Charge 4+ support.
Interestingly, Qualcomm has chosen a slower 5G modem than its predecessor, with download speeds of 1 Gbps. However, this choice helps keep the cost of the chipset low, making it ideal for budget devices.
Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will launch the first smartphone based on the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset later this year.
