It's been just over a month and a half since the company Xiaomi has released an important update for its application We Fit with which to synchronize his highly appreciated Mi Band, bringing it to the version 3.0. Xiaomi is very active in the wearable industry on that occasion also presented AmazFit Bip, a cheap sportwatch produced by Huami that we already know for his beloved AmazFit e AmazFit Health Band. Today we present you the complete review of the AmazFit Bip by thanking the store Gearbest.com for sending the sample.
The sales package is very elegant with a first cardboard depicting the image of the AmazFit Bip and some technical specifications while the actual box is wholly white with the exception of the company logo on the cover. The package proposes sportwatch as a watch made in jewelery, which wraps a cardboard structure that also includes a small box containing the instruction manual strictly speaking the Chinese language and the Charging base with built-in USB cable, but beware the base will only reload our wearable and will not perform any data transfer functions or anything else as it was for the AmazFit.
Although the price is really cheap the quality offered by the materials is really excellent, from soft silicone strap, the same adopted for AmazFit with size by 22 mm of width with fast release attachment and which can be replaced with any other commercial strap. Wearable wear is really comfortable and even after activity with intense sweats we do not feel any bother with the wrist, reduced weight of only 32 grams (measure 1950 x 350 x 80 mm). Also the strap fits any wrist with the presence of 14 holes separated each with a distance of 5 mm and for the heaviest wrists there is no problem as the excess part of the strap can be contained by the passageway. The buckle is made of high-strength plastic.
Also the chest of the AmazFit Bip, rectangular, is made of polycarbonate which though it may discourage the idea of solidarity, I assure you it is highly resistant, and with the presence of IP68 certification we could use our sportwatch even while we are bathing or showering, or swimming in the pool.
That said on the back of the chest we find the heart rate sensor and of two charging connectors through the supplied base. On the right side is instead a small multifunction button which will allow you to turn on the device, activate it from standby or go back a screen with respect to the menu we are in.
On the front we will find the AmazFit and the color touch display from 1,28 in (compared to the 1,77 inches of total surface size) with protection Corning Gorilla Glass e 2.5D machining. The screen is of transflective type, or more direct light receives and better will result in the visibility that is in every way guaranteed by Integrated backlighting which can be actuated by pressing the multifunction button or by setting the wrist rotation gesture through the application settings.
The actual backlight duration is 10 seconds. The transflective display also allows a considerable battery saving as it makes the backlight unnecessary during daylight hours.
And about battery we find on board the AmazFit Bip a 'unit from 190 mAh which promises one duration of 45 days in standby. Indeed with a standard use, which provides on average receiving at least 40 notifications, activity tracking for an average of 30 minutes, backlighting set to 50%, heart rate monitor off during sleep and Bluetooth connection to the smartphone always active, we will be able to get a performance equal to 19 / 20 full days (a discharge of about 5 / 6% per day), far far away from the month and half of departure but definitely great if compared to wearable similari lasting up to 2 days. Anyway, it will take about 2 half an hour to fully charge the battery and can put the AmazFit Bip on the wrist.
The AmazFit Bip offers the Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity for pairing to the smartphone on which to synchronize the data but also a GPS chip to 28 nanometer produced by Sony which also exploits the GLONASS technology so that the geolocation is fast and precise, with the possibility of use even without the combination to the smartphone as the sportwatch is able to record the GPS track collected during the sport activity. Among the various sensors we find that one PPG related to heart rate, accelerometer to 3 axes, geomagnetic sensor and a pressure sensor who switch to barometer and compass. If you are a fan of teardowns in general and you like to see our sportwatch naked then click on the button below for photos of the internal components. All the sensors worked excellently, and especially the cardio sensor seemed to me to be particularly accurate and reliable as the actual counting of the steps is well-calibrated, resulting in about a 3% in negative "stared" compared to more professional models.
Due to the due presentation, let us now see various AmazFit Bip menus which we will access by performing one swipe to the left from the home screen. Always from the start screen scrolling from top to bottom we will come straight to the mode "do not disturb" in order to silence any notifications. There is also a Bluetooth icon to check the connection with the smartphone and the percentage of remaining battery power.
This mode is proposed in two variants, the first will allow you to silence all notifications when you activate it (green moon), the second instead is a kind of "do not disturb" smart that will come into operation when you go to sleep (blue moon). Scrolling from bottom to top instead you can read the application notifications (up to a maximum of 5) but to which it is not possible to answer except from your smartphone. Still talking about notifications should be reported that the AmazFit Bip is also able to notify the calls arriving with the caller ID. Even calls can not be answered but you can reject the call or silence the notification.
Starting from the start screen we find the first menu named Home through which you can view usage statistics about walking paths, heart rate, distance traveled, burned calories, and number of alerts received about sitting. These data are continuously measured by Amazfit Bip.
Il second menu is the one related to sports activities through which we can choose 4 different modes sports, including race, treadmill, bicycle, walk. Also you can see it history of the activities carried out or set some settings, that is to set the automatic pause, set an alert when we reach a certain heart rate or alert to the achievement of a certain time defined for the workout.
Il third menu it is relative to weather which will use the GPS position or you can set the location using the application. The minimum and maximum temperature information will be provided up to 5 days as well as weather forecasts.
Through the fourth menu it's possible set an alarm clock up to a maximum of three events. The alarm it will not be sound but through vibration which is however very pronounced but not noisy and that even during deep sleep is easily perceived.
Since fifth menu instead it comes to the function of stopwatch or timer. The sixth menu instead it provides the function of compass which will be calibrated initially by running the infinity symbol by rotating the sportwatch.
Since seventh and last menu we can access the basic settings of the AmazFit Bip. The menu provides five subcategories through which we can choose the watchface (there are 9) of the home screen.
We can choose which predefined sport mode among the 4 present start automatically if we hold the multi-function button pressed for 3 seconds. We can set the backlight level, view the firmware version and the Bluetooth address and finally turn off the device.
And even if you can not memorize the simple instructions and the icons in Chinese make you forget enough, I attach the image of the AmazFit Bip menu in English for easier consultation and understanding.
The AmazFit Bip has inherited all the features of the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 evolving with the adoption of GPS and IP68 certification, and the application to synchronize data collected by sportwatch is just the famous Mi Fit in 3.0 version. I will not give you a presentation because we know pretty well about the application and I will limit myself to tell you that to better sync the AmazFit Bip with Fit Fit 3.0 you need to download a moddata version of the same from developer PostMan, through which we will not have problems with updating A-GPS, and we will also be able to sync all the data that can not be done with the application on the Play Store. For iOS users (poor ones) there is no moddated version and will have to settle for the default one.
In conclusion we should start from the fact that AmazFit Bip-like products also cost 200 euros while the low price of the same offers the same functions and performance and for those who practice amateur sports Xiaomi / Huami's sportwatch is a great choice. If we add the IP68 certification, the excellent construction and the great autonomy then I could no doubt say that the AmazFit Bip is one of the best hybrids between smartwatch and smartband for both sports and daily use. You can buy it on the store on line Gearbest.com I thank again for sending the sample and that as always I advise you for the reliability and variety of the products offered, which is the best way to approach the technology gadgets from China.
AmazFit Bip is the best choice in the wearable landscape for practicing amateur sports but also seeks a reliable product throughout the day, giving you great autonomy and perfect reception of notifications. An evolution compared to the Mi Band 2 thanks to the presence of GPS and IP68 certification.
