Arrived on the Italian market in place of Redmi K20, the Xiaomi Mi 9T it turned out to be a real surprise that could give a hard time to a competitor's device with a decidedly higher cost. Many call it an average of the range, but of medium Mi 9T has only the price because he has nothing to envy of the comrades equipped with more powerful SoCs. We then discover together Xiaomi Mi 9T in our complete review, thanking immediately the store GrossoShop for giving us the sample.
As per tradition we start with a bellunboxing, which features a black cardboard box with the smartphone image on top, showing immediately what the product is made of. Inside the box we still find:
- pin for removing the SIM tray;
- protective cover in black rigid plastic;
- cable for charging and data transfer USB Type-C;
- mains power supply with 5V-3A / 9V-2A / 12V-1.5A output (fast charging to 18W).
DESIGN, MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION
Xiaomi Mi 9T is proposed with a design partly already seen on other smartphones that adopt the solution of one pop-up room, but for the Chinese house this is absolutely a novelty in which, as always, it excels. Back cover made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass with anti-scratch treatment which in our case reveals one texture with carbon fiber effect which blends in the center in a deep black (Blue and Red colors are also available). Soft and rounded lines on all corners that are interrupted only by the presence of one triple camera, with a rather small projection but not flush with the body, and a dual tone LED flash.
On the profiles theoretically made of aluminum (to the touch the feedback is that of having used plastic materials reinforcing the structure with metal core) we find a small novelty as on the left Xiaomi has not inserted any element as it has positioned the SIM tray in the lower part of the smartphone where the charging input is also located Type-C with OTG support (unfortunately no video output), main microphone e mono system speaker. On the top we find the motorized camera selfie module retractable that also acts as a notification LED, second microphone for reducing ambient noise e jack from 3,5mm to take advantage of your favorite earphones. Finally on the right we find the volume and on / off keys, the latter adorned with a red metal coloring.
It is on the front that Xiaomi for this Mi 9T has made a true miracle, as we find the really thin frames and above all very symmetrical with each other that act as a canvas for a full screen display from 6,39 inches covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass. In the thin upper frame the display has been inserted the ear capsule and the proximity and brightness sensors that, despite the limited space available, work in a more than excellent way.
A design that is rather clean and elegant that is further emphasized by the excellent build quality, resulting very robust despite the presence of rather fragile noble materials, such as glass. Xiaomi Mi 9T was well optimized also in terms of ergonomics as despite its rather pronounced size and weight (156,7 x 74,3 x 8,8 mm) one-handed use is a pleasure without ever being weighed down by weight (191 grams) of the smartphone, as it is well distributed over the entire surface.
The display of Xiaomi Mi 9T is a real pleasure for the eyes. Panel Super AMOLED from 6.39 inches in resolution Full HD + (1080 x 2340 pixel), made by Samsung. Simply one of the best panels on which I have laid my eyes: bright in every area even in direct sunlight, thanks to a software level feature that alters display tones, but above all it is also possible to regulate contrasts and color temperature in depth. The presence of the functionality must also be reported DC Dimming, that is the anti-flicker typical of the AMOLED panels, but also of the HDR technology and certification Widevine L1, with support for high definition content on streaming platforms such as Netflix etc ..
In short, a display that gives great satisfaction during the use of multimedia content, such as videos or games, guaranteeing aunique immersiveness, almost as much as those of a modern cinema. Finally there is the reading mode, as well as the dark mode which also saves autonomy and the presence of the AOD able to be customized in terms of backgrounds (only those proposed by the MIUI ROM), able to show us all application notifications but without the possibility of interacting with them.
SERVICES AND SOFTWARE
In addition to being beautiful, Xiaomi Mi 9T is also quite promising in terms of performance thanks to the adoption of the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, construction a 8nm, structure Kryo 470 and clock up to 2.2 GHz to which accompanies one 618 Adreno GPU. A combo that for daily use proves perfect, demonstrating an excellent ability to manage general telephone processes, sturning each operation with extreme speed and fluidity. No slowing down or overheating with the opening of multiple applications at the same time, but above all extreme fluidity even with rather demanding games such as Real Racing 3, PUBG Mobile etc. The gaming side is rather optimized from the point of view of software that boasts the presence from the mode Game Turbo 2.0, making all the processor and graphics settings extreme, for an exciting gaming experience.
Xiaomi Mi 9T offers 6 GB of RAM LPDDR4X and at your choice 64 / 128 GB of internal storage UFS 2.1 not expandable as the SIM cart is only able to accommodate two nano-format SIMs. And since we mentioned connectivity, Xiaomi Mi 9T offers the full support for the 20 band with navigation in 4G on both slots and signal hooking 4G + without any effort. Superb reception even in areas where other smartphones were struggling as well as wireless connectivity guaranteed by a module was excellent 802.11a / b / g / n / ac WiFi dual-band 2.4 / 5.0 GHz (MU-MIMO, WiFi Direct, WiFi Display), but also from a module Bluetooth 5.0 with support for the Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus protocol, AAC / LDAC / aptX / aptX-HD / aptX-adaptive, which translates into the fact that you can enjoy your best earphones while enjoying a symphonic sound quality.
A choice that of Xiaomi really apt, in fact equipping the jack device with 3,5 mm made it possible to reset any criticism that the speaker is mono, which, despite everything, also turned out to be a surprise, returning a rather generous but above all balanced volume under each frequency range. Finally, theexcellent GPS signal fix with coupling of Galileo satellites for a better accuracy in the navigation phase but also the presence of the sensor NFC for various contactless payments or for TAG support.
At the Xiaomi Mi software level 9T is naturally based on the proprietary interface MIUI 10 with Android OS 9 Pie. We now know the functions of MIUI by heart and therefore I will not dwell much unless I bring to attention a lack, namely the not working with Android Auto, for many a necessity. The company has not yet released any updates but rumors suggest that the next update will solve the problem.
The autonomy of Xiaomi Mi 9T is certainly one of the strengths of the smartphone. One unit from 4000 mAh which is exploited to the fullest thanks to the software optimization that Xiaomi has been able to dedicate to the CPU Snapdragon 730, which is little energy intensive and free from overheating. I personally managed to get to even get 7 half hours of active display without ever taking advantage of WiFi connectivity, but what matters is not so much the numbers but your habits, which in any case will be met as less demanding users could easily arrive at two full days of use. Finally we find support for quick charge to 18W which allows us to reload the device in about 1 hours and 20 minutes while with only 25 / 30 minutes we will have already obtained the 60% autonomy.
On balance on the back we find one triple camera not protruding compared to what we have seen on other Chinese brand devices, which we have already been able to appreciate in the Mi 9 series, although there are some changes in terms of sensors. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the result obtained by Xiaomi Mi 9T is better. The first difference concerns precisely the main sensor, an 48 MP from Sony, model IMX582 that compared to the IMX586 model has only the limitation in shooting video in 4K to 30fps instead of 60. For the rest, an excellent sensor that manages to bring out the best undoubtedly in situations of good lighting, but even at nightfall, digital noise is not so obvious, especially if exploited night mode of the MIUI Camera software.
The optic is very bright thanks to an opening ƒ / 1.75 and modalities Super Pixel 4-in-1 from 1.6μm. With this in mind, a camera is combined with telephoto lens from 8MP, 2x optical zoom, 1.12 μm, ƒ / 2.4 aperture Omnivision sensor and finally an fultra-wide-angle 13 MP camera, 124.8 ° Samsung 1.12μm sensor, f / 2.4 aperture. Needless to say, the presence of the wide camera allows shots that give new life to photos that would otherwise be flat. Unfortunately at night I could see that the use of the wide camera tends to offset the real colors by tending to yellow / green tones. At the level of blurred (bokeh) Xiaomi seems to have worked on the software algorithm, which manages to give effects to say the least professional, allowing you to adjust the focal length both during shooting and post.
Of course theAutomatic HDR, detection AI scenes, filters but above all the possibility of choosing with which lens to shoot. As anticipated before at the video level we have the possibility of push up to the 4K to 30 fps, as well as 1080p 30 / 60 fps, carry out slow motion up to 960fps in Full HD format, time lapse. The 30 fps in both Full HD and 4K resolution also comes into play digital stabilization, although I have noticed that it is very "hard" in terms of movements and at times the video suffers with jumps from one frame to another rather obvious. Bthe audio captured by the integrated microphone is used by Xiaomi Mi 9T.
The protagonist of the photographic sector of Mi 9T however is the pop-up pop-up room, an 20 MP optic, 0,8 μm, ƒ / 2,2 opening with sapphire glass cover but above all the contour LEDs are an absolute pleasure. The LED can be turned off via software as well as the sound that accompanies the appearance and disappearance of the pop up selfie camera can be turned off or changed. This view also allows for unlock the smartphone with the face although it is more cumbersome than expected (as shown in the video review) but in any case Xiaomi has also thought about safety, providing it with fall sensor so that it can retract and prevent damage from falling, as well as pressure sensor downwards. Finally, the mechanism is guaranteed for 300000 pop up. Excellent quality also for this camera which allows 1080p 30fps video to be detected, although stabilization is absent. You will also get further professional shots thanks to the native GCam support, although at the moment this is going to crash at the change of focal length between standard and wide.
Drawing the conclusions for this Xiaomi Mi 9T is quite easy. The smartphone turned out to be excellent, I would say perfect, in every respect. Perhaps for many to call it perfect is exaggerated, but I think that at the price offered on the market the perfect word is also little. Very high performance and quality, unrivaled multimedia immersiveness, record autonomy and excellent photo / video potential.
In short, Xiaomi Mi 9T is the choice on which to make your purchase fall, or better I would call it an investment, because if properly followed and evolved the device will be able to pull out many more surprises.
