On March 31, the vice president of Xiaomi Group and general manager of the Redmi brand, Lu Weibing, published a post on the famous Chinese social network Weibo asking his followers “What do you want improved in the successors of the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro? ". The answer that has received the most acclaim seems to be the presence of a fingerprint sensor under the screen.
Lu Weibing did not hold back and made it clear that the lack of a UD fingerprint sensor is not only due to a marketing strategy, but rather a technical problem. It would in fact be impossible to position a sensor of this type under an LCD display, that is of the type that we find in the last Note series.
So, to put it simply, until a Redmi smartphone is equipped with an AMOLED screen, we can forget about the fingerprint reader below the screen.

The Redmi boss then let us know that having the sensor on the back cover is the best choice for a device with an LCD display. Having a side sensor is more beautiful to look at but the percentages of positive fingerprints decreases, Weibing says up to two / three times compared to the reader behind.
That said, we must not abandon all hope. In fact, news from a few hours ago is what would always give Redmi the job of creating a new "true" flagship with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. In that case it would be very likely the presence of an AMOLED screen for the realization of a more complete device and consequently the hypothesis of a fingerprint sensor under the screen would be likely again.

In any case, in our opinion Redmi should focus on other aspects of the smartphone before bringing a technology that is not yet mature. Trying to keep prices low for top-end hardware.
