Redmi Gaming Phone closer and closer, the DG Weibing cannot put it down

A couple of days ago, the Redmi brand officially announced that it has decided to enter the field of gaming phones with its first "masterpiece" which will be released at the end of the month. The new device will not only be very performing and will have special functions for real gamers, but it will also be the first of a line of cheaper gaming phones than its competitors.

Today, the vice president of Xiaomi and general manager of the Redmi brand, Lu Weibing, shared a post on Weibo in which he says “I can't put it down”. Said without context it sounds a bit ambiguous, but just look at the signature at the top that says “RM Game Phone Android” to understand that it is referring to the smartphone. So, in fact, Lu Weibing already has the smartphone in his hands and apparently it's better than he expected.

Recall that already in January, always Lu Weibing, had stated that Redmi will launch the first smartphone in the world with the new flagship 5G chip from MediaTek, or the Dimensity 1200.

Lu Weibing had also stated that the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 will be an excellent chip to run video games and that the Redmi brand will also focus on the field of e-sports. So it is quite clear that Redmi's gaming phone will be equipped with this chip. Recall that the Dimensity 1200 adopts an 8-core architecture with a “1 + 3 + 4” configuration, of which the super-large core is the 78 GHz Cortex A3,0, the highest clock speed in the industry. While the GPU is Mali-G77 and extremely high performance comparable to the Snapdragon 870 can be achieved.

As for the rest, several leaks suggest that the smartphone in addition to being optimized for gaming, will also have a gaming phone design, which can be more or less pleasing depending on your tastes. We will have an AMOLED mouse flat screen, like the one aboard the Redmi K40.In addition, Redmi will collaborate with different developers to optimize the various games on their device.

Finally, a leak had also suggested that Redmi's gaming phone could cost around 2000 yuan, about 260 euros.

[UPDATE]

While we await new official details regarding Redmi's first gaming phone, the vice president of Xiaomi and general manager of Redmi shared a very interesting post on Weibo regarding the battery that we will find on the device.

Lu Weibing has indeed said that the batteries on our smartphones are too small. This is after pointing out earlier that large batteries are only needed in the 5G era. The 4000mAh battery of a 5G smartphone is roughly equivalent to the 3200mAh of a 4G device. Such a battery capacity is currently not sufficient. 4000mAh is the red line for battery life and cannot be touched.

As its first gaming phone, Redmi wants to ensure good battery life. So the battery capacity should exceed 4500mAh and the possibility of it exceeding 5000mAh is not ruled out.

At the same time, I notice that the Chinese blogger Digital Chat Station broke the news that Redmi's smartphone has just been certified on the 3C certification body's website. The smartphone would come with a charger with model number MDY-12-EF, which supports charging with a maximum power of 67W. It is no coincidence that this is the charger that is supplied together with the Xiaomi Mi 11 series.

So whether it is a 4500mAh, 5000mAh or more battery, if the leakster's revealed is confirmed, the gaming phone will still be able to recharge at a high speed.
