Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9: Compare specifications

Starting from the presentation of the new Redmi K20 series by the Xiaomi sub-brand, many wonder what the true flagship of the Chinese giant is now, the Redmi K20 Pro or the Xiaomi Mi 9? But above all, which of the two should you buy? What are the differences? Well, in this post we're going to see above all what differentiates the two smartphones, so as to make a possible future choice easier for you.

Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9: Compare specifications

Design

Let's start with the first thing we notice when we pick up a new device, namely design. Although Redmi has decided to create a new look for the K20 Pro by giving it some character and avoid making it look like a copy of the Mi 9, the flagship presented the day before yesterday does not differ that much from the flagship presented at the MWC 2019 in Barcelona.

Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9

Let's start with the dimensions that they are 156.7 74.3 x x 8.8mm for the Redmi K20 Pro e 157.5 74.7 x x 7.6mm for the Xiaomi Mi 9, so the K20 Pro is slightly shorter and more tapered, while the Mi 9 is quite thinner. As for weight, we have 191 grams against 173 grams in favor of the Mi 9. Moreover the latter adopts a glass in Corning Gorilla Glass of the sixth generationwhile on the K20 Pro is from 5a gen.

In the back of both smartphones we find three cameras, left aligned on the Mi 9 and central on the K20 Pro, so there is no real winner. But if we move on to the front we notice perhaps the biggest difference between the two devices, namely the lack of drip notch on the Redmi K20 Pro which instead is present on the Xiaomi Mi 9. This is a hands-down victory at Redmi's flagship store on that of Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Redmi K20 no IR

Many may not like the fact that they have a mechanism for exiting the front camera, but from an aesthetic point of view the Redmi K20 Pro is more pleasant, with no notch or hole that disturbs or blocks the view. To his disadvantage instead, we can say that having the hidden camera could lead to lack of the feature for face release, available on the Mi 9.

Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9: Screen and fingerprint sensor

Turning to the screen instead, Redmi managed to get the exact same display on the Xiaomi Mi 9, so in fact we have the same (excellent) quality without any compromise. Still on the display, indeed below, we find then a optical type fingerprint sensor, in particular we have one of seventh generation, while the Mi 9 had remained at the fifth, this means a higher recognition rate and more rapid release.

Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9: Cameras

Since we are talking about optical sensors, let's look at the differences in the photographic sector between the two devices. The Redmi K20 Pro comes with a main camera Sony IMX586 from 48MP with f / 1,75 aperture, one from 8MP with 2x telephoto lens and one by 13MP ultra wide-angle (124,8 ° viewing angle)that Xiaomi Mi 9 equips the same main camera coupled however with a secondary from 12MP with 2x telephoto lens and a third from 16MP ultra wide-angle (117 ° viewing angle). This means that the Xiaomi Mi 9 wins when you want to take a picture in telephoto or ultra wide-angle mode (with the same software), while with the primary we should have almost identical results.

As for the selfies, here too the My 9 in slight advantage despite both having sensors from 20MP, the Xiaomi flagship has indeed a focal aperture of f / 2,0 against the f / 2,2 by Redmi.

Battery and quick charge

Now let's move on to a component that instead definitely goes in favor of the latest arrival, or the battery. The In fact, Redmi K20 Pro comes with a large 4000mAh batterywhile on the Xiaomi Mi 9 we reach a maximum of 3300mAh. This means more autonomy in any case since the rest of the hardware is equivalent. In addition, the Redmi device was also equipped with the ultra fast charging to 27W.

Another point against the Redmi's flagship is the lack of wireless charging, but many could anyway prefer a larger battery compared to a feature that they might not use.

Other differences

Finally among the other "minor" differences we have the lack of infrared emitter, available on the Mi 9 and not on the K20 Pro. While the K20 Pro has the audio jack from 3,5mm which is missing on the Xiaomi device.

Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9: Specifications in common

Snapdragon 855 Mi 9

Although you probably already know all the specifications of both smartphones, let's go now to quickly see the features in common starting from the processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 internal memory, NFC module, Bluetooth 5.0, Dual-Frequency GPS and MIUI 10 as the operating system.

Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9: Prices

We can not finish this comparison without talking about prices, although unfortunately we can only speculate on those of K20 Pro at the moment. The Xiaomi Mi 9 is sold in Italy starting from 449 € and if we have to listen to the latest rumors coming from Russia, the Redmi K20 Pro could have the same cost.

Having said that, for the same price, which would you prefer? Redmi K20 Pro with truly Full Screen design, 4000mAh battery and audio jack, or Xiaomi Mi 9 with face unlocking, better image sensors and wireless charging? Let us know in the comments section below!

K20 Pro, no notch, audio jack and battery, more than enough for the final choice, no doubts.

But you have entered the face unlock. This is also a software element, in fact it was implemented in the first patch. The camera sensors are better on the mi9 in quality and aperture, but it must be said that even with fewer pixels, the k20 pro has a higher angle. So it is questionable to say that the mi9 wins because it is 16mp instead of 13mp. Some might consider the larger angle more significant than 3mp.
