Although the Redmi K30 Pro brand is a smartphone with an incredible specification / price ratio, the Xiaomi sub-brand does not yet seem interested in implementing a high level of waterproofing on its devices.
Waterproofing on Redmi K30 Pro? Here's what the general manager thinks about it
Clearly, the cheaper nature of the Redmi brand partly justifies the lack of this useful feature, yes, but perhaps not so necessary. It is not just us who think so, but also the general manager of Redmi and vice president of Xiaomi Group, Lu Weibing.
Weibing has in fact just shared on Weibo (the Chinese Twitter) a post in which he states that the IP53 rating that we have on the Redmi K30 Pro is more than enough to protect the device from splashes of water that can happen in everyday life. Weibing added that IP68 waterproofing is not necessary in his opinion.
For the less experienced, the IP68 rating means that the smartphone is almost completely waterproof. In particular, the device is completely protected against all types of dust and the same applies to liquids: it can stay in the water even for an hour in a row and up to three meters deep. So a smartphone that we can also take to the pool without having to worry about possible falls into the water.
On the other hand, the IP53 standard includes good dust protection and light rain protection. Technically it is therefore not protected from heavy rain, direct jets of water and we are not even going to talk about falls in water that could prove fatal.
In any case, we must remember that the Redmi K30 Pro is a fairly unique device. The smartphone in fact adopts a selfie camera with a pop-up mechanism that from a technical point of view is probably very difficult, if not impossible, to be waterproof.
So if positive we have a completely unchanged display, without any notch or hole, which improves our user experience, negative is the little resistance to liquids that this design entails.
Let's quickly recall some of the specifications that we find on the Redmi K30 Pro starting from the 6,67-inch diagonal and AMOLED type display. Below it we then have the high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 865; coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of ultra fast UFS 3.1 internal memory.
We also find four rear cameras with the main 64MP, Sony IMX686 sensor, 13MP secondary with ultra wide lens, 5MP with telephoto lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Finally, we have a large 4700mAh battery and 33W fast charge support.
