Redmi K40 (POCO F3) will not count on DC Dimming in stable version

Redmi K40 with very high probability it will not be updated with the DC Dimming (between poco we will see what it is) in the stable version of MIUI 12. What is globally called POCO F3 it is nothing more than a rebrand of the top-of-the-range Redmi device which, however, second as revealed by Zhang Guoquan, director of Xiaomi's smartphone software department, will not be equipped with this feature. However, it is about to be introduced in development versions. But let's go see the details of the news.

Redmi K40 or POCO F3 (in Global version) will not receive the update for DC Dimming: what is and why this is happening

The company's big game today stated that Redmi K40 he will not be gifted in his version stable of the MIUI 12 ROM, the DC Dimming. Before we see why, let's briefly summarize what it is and what it entails. First of all, we are talking about a functionality that we find only on such screens OLED. These have so many advantages over other types of displays, but there is also a disadvantage: the way the panel manages low brightness levels. DC dimming essentially controls brightness by varying the power supplied to the circuit.

The review POCO F3, aka Redmi K40, by our Alessandro

Increasing or decreasing the voltage will vary the power supplied to the display panel and therefore its brightness. But why do some companies use it and others don't? Because the attenuation of the current has a big disadvantage. At low brightness levels, colors are often distorted on OLED panels. Basically one voltage variation could modify the emitted colors. Now that we understand what it is, let's go back to the Redmi K40.

Zhang Guoquan he said that this device will not receive the feature because in the development phases (therefore in the closed beta) "the effect of the DC dimming test is unacceptable". However, this will continue to be present in development versions. It is not clear why it doesn't work well, nor why the brand has decided to keep it in the development versions. Probably the plan is to release it later, not immediate, while now we focus on something else.
