Redmi will be the first brand to use the new MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G chip (leak)

A few hours ago, Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek officially announced the new processor Dimension 1080 5G, an upgrade of the Dimensity 1080 launched earlier. Well, a few minutes later, the well-known Chinese blogger Digital Chat Station broke the news that the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G will be launched globally for the first time under the Redmi brand.

Also according to Digital Chat Station, the first Redmi model with this chip should be part of the Redmi Note 12 series. Redmi will be followed by brands like Realme and Honor who will also launch the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 5G chip on their devices.

As for the processor, today it was reported that the AnTuTu score of the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 is between 500 and 550 points. So with performance similar to that of the Snapdragon 778G produced by competitor Qualcomm.

Compared to the previously launched Dimensity 1080, MediaTek has mainly updated the video part of the chipset. In fact, the MediaTek Imagiq ISP image processor has been improved, which can support photos with a resolution of up to 200MP with the main camera and the Dimensity 1080 5G also integrates a 4K HDR video recording engine at the hardware level, which according to what the company greatly improves the quality of videos in low light conditions.

In terms of specifications, the Dimensity 1080 5G adopts TSMC's 6nm manufacturing process and octa-core CPU architecture within which we find two Arm Cortex-A78 cores with a main frequency of 2,6 GHz and one Arm Mali-G68 GPU.

In addition, the Dimensity 1080 5G is equipped with the MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 game engine, which can further optimize the smartphone's energy efficiency when gaming with the help of MediaTek's third-generation APU.
