Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G Review - Under € 300 it is a lust

I do not hide that I personally abandoned the idea of relying on a Xiaomi and / or Redmi-branded smartphone as a personal device, so much so that my personal choice fell on Realme, which I will talk about in a special video. The fact remains that the curiosity to try new terminals accompanies me in everyday life and so when the opportunity arose to try out the brand new and promising preview Redmi Notes 11 Pro 5G, I didn't miss it and so here I am talking to you about him, in the Global version, or the one animated by the Snapdragon 695 SoC instead of the MediaTek Dimensity 920, but let's not get into technicalities now because we will be able to address them within this full review.

The sales package of the new device of the Asian brand appears rather anonymous, not so much on the front but due to the absence of specifications generally positioned on the back of the sales box. In any case, inside the package we find the following equipment:

  • USB Type-C power and data transfer cable;
  • Wall power supply with European socket with max output of 20V / 3.25A-67W;
  • Pin for removing the SIM tray;
  • Manuals;
  • Transparent silicone protective cover with Type-C input cover;
  • Pre-applied display protection plastic film;
  • Redmi Notes 11 Pro 5G.

SAR VALUE: Head: 0,596 W / kg, Body: 0,956 W / kg (distance 5mm).

Nice design, new but already seen

I must admit that just picked up the smartphone I immediately appreciated the ergonomics and the pleasant sensation given by the square lines and the back cover, overshadowing the dimensions and weight that are not exactly contained (164,19 x 76,1 x 8,12 mm for a weight of 202 grams). It is undeniable that Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is partly inspired by the shapes of Apple's latest creation, but it does so with its own identity and style that at times made me come back to why I love the Xiaomi / Redmi brand.

Clear lines that run along the entire plastic frame, contributing to the improvement of the smartphone grip. The general feeling is pleasant but the eye also wants its part and in fact the matte finish of the body is immediately appreciated, but above all it is appreciated for the fact that it does not retain dirt and fingerprints. The material resembles the one seen on Xiaomi Pad 5, but here we find an important and showy camera bump in which the wording 108MP AI CAMERA stands out, which we will talk about later.

On the left profile we find nothing while on the opposite side the balance wheel of the volume ed is housed the power button which also integrates the fingerprint sensor, a solution that I particularly appreciate for its rapidity and reliability in unlocking. The upper profile is particularly exploited, given the presence of the jack input 3,5 mm, IR transmitter, second microphone for noise reduction in calls and one of the two stereo speakers enjoyed by the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G.

The second speaker is in fact found on the lower profile, accompanied by the main microphone, Type-C input for charging and OTG support (no video output) and the SIM tray.

The latter is able to accommodate 2 SIMs in nano format with possibility to expand the memory via micro SD (up to 1 TB) by giving up the Dual SIM Dual Standby function. The mobile connectivity technology is that of 5G, although I have not been able to benefit from the advantages, since where I live the signal does not arrive but I have still been able to enjoy the excellent integrated modem that often made me navigate at speeds that I have rarely touched. the smartphones I tested.

A discordant note is given by the plastic band that adorns the screen while the frames that surround it are rather pleasant, although the symmetry between the upper and lower ones is not respected at all. Present above the display, the ear capsule and the proximity and brightness sensors, which fortunately work perfectly. Before talking about the display, I want to say a few words about the sound coming out of the two independent stereo speakers, on which I only have to complain about the position of the same, especially the upper one, positioned too low compared to the hypothetical hand-held in landscape mode, risking to cover the sound outlet slot with the hand.

For the rest, the volume is exaggeratedly high but without distorting. The presence of is appreciable a good dose of bass, but the frequencies of the high tones predominate over the others, but only with certain musical genres. In fact and especially with videos and TV series, the audio is crazy and optimal, counting at the software level of the presence of the Dolby Atmos.

Redmi Note Pro 5G has excellent display

As promised we are talking about the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G screen, an element on which the Chinese company in recent times knows how to distinguish itself particularly for the goodness and optimization with which it equips its devices. And here we find a brilliant 2440-inch Full HD + (1080 x 6,67 pixels) AMOLED panel in which there is a central hole in which the selfie camera is housed. The whole is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 but the specification that certainly draws attention is the refresh rate to 120 Hz, which returns an excellent fluidity.

The feeling of looking at images and content in general on this panel is to find yourself in front of a premium terminal, even if the remaining numbers from the technical data sheet of the panel do not scream a miracle. We have "only" 395 PPI but the peak brightness reaches up to 1200 nits (but only under certain conditions) and the color profile is of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut type, which translates into a well-balanced image and video rendering and contrasted, without having to intervene on the calibration that we can possibly carry out through the MIUI 13 software. Then the presence of the Widevine L1 DRMs complete the display specifications, but the absence of recognition of these continues on Prime Video and unfortunately there is also no support to HDR content.

Respectable hardware

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is also appreciated for the power that flows in its veins, with superb performance, thanks to the home processor Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 695. An octacore CPU with a 6nm production process and a maximum clock of 2.2 GHz which is accompanied by the Adreno GPU 619 as well as 6/8 GB of RAM of the LPDDR4x type and 64 or 128 GB of internal memory of the UFS 2.2 type.

I don't particularly like benchmarks, but on AnTuTu the device of the Chinese brand, scores abundant points to bring many rivals on the same price range to their knees. But the numbers in themselves do not say anything, while it is the daily experience that speaks volumes about this technological specimen. Well, it was years that I had not held a Xiaomi / Redmi smartphone in my hands capable of being appreciated at 360 degrees, without lag, without overheating, without smudging even in gaming, allowing us to stress the smartphone without being afraid that this is a problem.

A processor that is not a top of the range but that thanks to the stability of the performances makes it almost preferable to expensive high-end devices. To be honest, however, precisely in the gaming field we must not expect graphic details at the highest levels, otherwise in this case some slowdown could come out. The thermal throttlig is certainly not a problem, also counting on LiquidCool technology, which contributes to the possibility of super fast charging.

We cannot talk about performance without mentioning the software, or the MIUI cross and delight for many smartphones of the Chinese company. On Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G it is the MIUI 13 that animates everything, based on Android 11 and patch of December 2021, but I will not express myself more than many about it because compared to the previous generation I have not seen who knows what improvements, but I can say that the huge bugs that have accompanied MIUI 12 for too long seem to be absent. Don't sing victory, because there are always some bugs here and there, as if to simulate a trademark of the brand and among these I noticed a small lag when switching from the main to the ultra-wide-angle camera.

Excellent autonomy and complete connectivity

The rest of the smartphone's connectivity consists of FM radio, NFC for payments on the move, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS and Dual WiFi but undoubtedly the combination of a large one is tempting battery from 5000 mAh and a super quick charge from 67W, which in just 42 minutes allows a charge of 100% while it takes only 15 to have 51% of energy. Numbers thus create great expectations, which have all been exceeded despite the 120 Hz display, totaling a residual charge of over 30% for a whole day of super stress. It is useless to talk about hours of active screen, but for the most "common" users, I think it is not difficult to reach even two full days of use.

Photographic sector well but not very well

One of the sore points of cheap smartphones is that relating to photographic and video yield, and in a certain sense Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G does not differ from this statement, although in principle I can be satisfied. Here we rely on a 108 MP primary sensor, the Samsung ISOCELL HM2 with f / 1.9. 9 in 1 pixel binning technology and 1 / 1,52 "sensor suggest a good yield but to be picky, the dynamic range is not always managed properly by Redmi's processing software.

The ultra-wide lens of 8 MP, f / 2.2 and FOV 118 ° sometimes accentuates some chromatic aberrations and especially in environments poco illuminated digital noise becomes a companion of the shots in these conditions. The 2 MP macro lens does not give particular emotions and often the yield is so poor that the imagination of using it passes.

In the video field, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G does not go beyond recording at 1080p 30 fps, both for the selfie camera and the rear one, without even providing great aids in the field of stabilization, present only in digital form. The smartphone in question is undoubtedly cheap, but at least at the software level Redmi could have done more. In fact, it is not even possible to use the Night mode with the ultra wide camera, while the portrait mode with 16 MP selfie camera, results poco natural.

Redmi Note Pro 5G - Conclusions and price

I don't want to call Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G a best buy, but it undoubtedly made me savor that sparkling air I breathed in the early days of Xiaomi. Excellent hardware and cheap price, without particular sacrifices, indeed I would say none. Is it worth abandoning the Note 10 series for this one? In my opinion, yes, both in terms of design and performance.

8.6 Total score
REDMI NOTE 11 PRO 5G

Beautiful and concrete, so I could define the Note 11 Pro 5G. The new smartphone by Redmi has all the credentials to be appreciated and certainly the ace in the hole is with the price, particularly apt for a handyman terminal.

Nerd, Geek, Netizen, terms that do not belong to me. Simply myself, technology lover and provocative as Xiaomi does with his products. High quality at fair prices, a real provocation for the other most famous brands.

Too bad the cpu, a fair step behind the Chinese counterpart that mounts the dimensity920 (for example, the limit of 1080 30fps videos is due to her). When the price drops to 250/260 it will be more attractive.
Meanwhile, let's see the k50 with the dimensity 8000 how much it will cost ...
